Oakworth Station

A small job completed yesterday. I say small, but it’s taken months! Sourcing white glass, trying different fonts and sizes, getting the lettering done, and as for cutting the glass! Ended up at the lovely and local Parkwood Glass.

All the gas lamps now let you know which station you’re at, as per Midland originals.

A reminder of when this Lancashire & Yorkshire locomotive became a film star, taking centre stage in The Railway Children. Seen here steaming past the children with the Metropolitan Railway coaches in tow.

Back in the day when we had a signal box at the station. It was across the track(s) from the Gods Shed - about where the lamp hut now stands.

We’ve just been reminded by The Railway Children 1970 Film that today is Gary Warren’s birthday. Gary played the part of Peter Waterbury - Peter is perhaps best remembered for his rather inquisitive mind and interest in coal mining! Happy birthday, Gary.

We had a great visit today from three reenactors; depicting (L-R)) goods guard, stationmaster and parcels porter. All Midland Railway from the end of the 19th century. Many photos were taken and much interest from the visitors and passengers - especially those on the Vintage Train.

We’ve just been reminded by the lovely Sally Thomsett that today would have been Lionel Jeffries’ 100th birthday. We’re so pleased that he decided to keep the name of the station when he made The Railway Children back in 1970. Happy birthday, Lionel.
