Oakworth Station

A lovely rainbow appeared near the end of my rostered turn today. Trains run until just after midnight tonight for the KWVR B**r and Music Festival, but they’re not stopping at the station.

He’s jolly good at finding a different viewpoint - and slightly obsessed with puddles - he’s Point and Shoot Photos!

It’s a bit damp here today!

A small job completed yesterday. I say small, but it’s taken months! Sourcing white glass, trying different fonts and sizes, getting the lettering done, and as for cutting the glass! Ended up at the lovely and local Parkwood Glass.

All the gas lamps now let you know which station you’re at, as per Midland originals.

Another lovely shot from Robert Batty.

We know you like a bit of Railway Children stuff!

🐉 Throwback Thursday

In steam today is 'The Green Dragon'.

A reminder of when this Lancashire & Yorkshire locomotive became a film star, taking centre stage in The Railway Children. Seen here steaming past the children with the Metropolitan Railway coaches in tow.

Those very same 'Mets' can still be seen today. Just hop off at Ingrow West and pay a visit to The Carriage Works Museum for a closer look at these carriages & more. Free entry with a Day Rover.

Back in the day when we had a signal box at the station. It was across the track(s) from the Gods Shed - about where the lamp hut now stands.

We’ve just been reminded by The Railway Children 1970 Film that today is Gary Warren’s birthday. Gary played the part of Peter Waterbury - Peter is perhaps best remembered for his rather inquisitive mind and interest in coal mining! Happy birthday, Gary.
