Breakfast in bed for little Hector. He's doing really well and getting stronger and more independent every day. Sadly Harriet, another small hoglet that came to us, was not as strong and despite all our efforts sadly passed away on Saturday. Nettle the big female hog, our first patient with the open wound and live maggots, has been released after her wound healed remarkably well. She went back out weighing a whopping 1.3kg. We have a new patient - Nick (named by a kind member of the public who gave us a generous donation) had been trapped for a few days and was very dehydrated, skinny and also has a parasite burden. He's progressing well, but will be with us for several weeks, at least until his claws grow back so he can dig for food successfully.

Last night saw our official first release. This female hog was found trapped in a rubbish bag. She was observed in the Hogspital for a couple of days, then last night went into the soft release pen at dusk. Once we'd seen her have a drink and a snack, we opened the door and off she went to continue her adventures ❤️

This is "Hector" named by his finders, taking himself back to bed earlier today. This little hoglet is under 100g and needs a lot of care. He is getting warmth in an incubator and being hand fed every 3 hours.

We'd be very grateful for any support you can give to enable us to help as many hogs as we can. This summer has been particularly hard for hedgehogs and most rescues are full.

Patient 1 Nettle

Hello everyone and welcome to our page. We (Erika, Alena & Linda) have just started out rescuing and rehabilitating hedgehogs at our house in Bondleigh, near North Tawton in Devon. For those of you who don't know us, we all work together and have a keen interest in hedgehogs. We have enjoyed watching our local hedgehog populations in our own gardens for many years. Before Erika started working in our family business, Fix Auto Mid Devon, she was a qualified veterinary nurse and has, since she could walk and talk, been mad about animals. We have submitted an application to the Charity Comission to become a registered charity, but we've had to escalate our opening as our first patient found us! Patient number 1 = Nettle. Nettle is a large female hog, weighing over 1kg. She was spotted on one of our ring cameras with a funny looking patch on her side. On closer inspection, (and smell!!, we found a small wound full of live maggots! She is now recieveing antibiotics, pain relief, had a trip to the vets to debride the wound, and she will now remain in our care until the wound has healed and she can be released back into the garden.
