🔒🏡🚗 Keep Your Home and Vehicle Safe and Secure 🚗🏡🔒

A few simple security checks can make a big difference in preventing crime and protecting your property.

At Home: ✅ Close and lock all windows before going to bed and when leaving the house. ✅ Secure sheds, garages and side gates. ✅ Keep keys out of sight and away from doors and windows. ✅ If you're going away, ask a trusted neighbour to keep an eye on your property and use timer switches to make your home look occupied.

For Your Vehicle: ✅ Always lock your vehicle, even if you're only leaving it for a few minutes. ✅ Remove keys from the vehicle and never leave them unattended. ✅ Don't leave valuables, bags, tools or electrical items on display. ✅ Close all windows and sunroofs when parked. ✅ Park in a well-lit area whenever possible. ✅ Double-check that your vehicle is locked before walking away.

Many thefts are opportunist crimes, targeting properties and vehicles that have been left unsecured. Taking a moment to lock up before you leave the house or go to bed can help reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime.

👀 See something suspicious? Please report it.

🔐🏡🚗

Tonight's security checklist: ✔ Doors locked ✔ Windows secure ✔ Car locked ✔ Valuables removed from view ✔ Keys stored safely

A few seconds to check could save a lot of heartache later.

Bank Holiday! | Have a safe TRIP

Whether you’re leaving the south west or coming to visit, have a safe and enjoyable summer holiday road trip.

Follow the T.R.I.P. checks every driver needs to perform to keep themselves, their passengers and other road users safe.

TOP UP your fuel or battery, oil and screen wash
REST with planned stops of at least 15 minutes every two hours
INSPECT tyre pressure, tread depth and for cracks or tears before setting out
PREPARE for all weather conditions…it may be very hot, or we may have rain and thunderstorms

We’ll add that SPEED limits are there for your safety, they are not a target. Drive within the limit and to prevailing road, weather and traffic conditions. So, TRIPS: as easy to remember as TRIP.

🚗 Have a great bank holiday! 😎

Eclipse! | Keep yourself and everyone else safe

😎 Sound advice about watching the eclipse on Wednesday from David Jones, Consultant Ophthalmologist with the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust. Click on the link.

🚗 If you are traveling to a vantage point to watch, please park safely and responsibly in official car parks and marked areas, don’t cause an obstacle by parking on verges, kerbs or pavements. Emergency vehicles need access everywhere at all times 🚑

🔥 Avoid the use of barbecues and be careful with disposing of ci******es, especially in countryside locations – it’s tinder dry out there. Please take your litter home with you.

☀️ Enjoy this rare and stunning event safely and responsibly.

It has been a busy set of shifts for the West Devon neighbourhood police teams which included a day at Okehampton Camp, meeting Army cadets on their summer camp. The cadets had travelled from South East London and the Midlands for a week on Dartmoor and they were able to chat to officers and learn about the many opportunities Devon and Cornwall Police has to offer.
