We're delighted that the Town Council has decided to support us in applying to recognise Hog's Wood as an Asset of Community Value. Thank you for all your support! If you're out in Hog's Wood you'll probably notice it's cooler under the trees and it's still green in there, a great refuge in this hot weather.

Okehampton Town Council has agreed to support an application to name Hog's Wood as an Asset of Community Value. If granted, campaigners hope the status will influence planning decisions in favour of keeping the land as a green space.

Hi everyone. Thanks for all the incredible responses to our call out to help nominate Hog’s Wood as an Asset of Community Value through WDBC! We’ve now submitted all the paperwork (lots of it!) and will await a response from them. We got an incredible 45 people wanting to be members of Hog’s Wood to support our organisation. Malcolm in Northfield Rd has been surveying the moths and butterflies of Hogs Wood for a long time. Earlier this week he posted this:
Very rare butterfly spotted at Hogs Wood Okehampton. Large Tortoiseshell butterfly, declared extinot in the 1960s, 70s. In recent years has started to colonise the southern England. This year Butterfly conservation declared it resident again as it was recorded from Cornwall to Kent'.

Friends of Hog's Wood, we need your help!

We have been made aware of a process whereby land can be nominated to the local council for consideration as an Asset of Community Value. This means that if the land were to be leased or sold, the group then has the right to bid for the asset.

To be placed on the register of Assets of Community Value at West Devon Borough Council (WDBC), it needs to be considered to: further the social wellbeing or social interests of the local community

There need to be nominations from 21 people who live locally and are happy to be considered as part of the Hogs Wood Group. There is no legal liability from being a signatory.
