YSI North East 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Welcome to the official page of YSI North East!
💛 Promoted by Erin Nicholson on behalf of the North East. For Young People, By Young People 🎗️

The Young Scots for Independence (YSI) is committed to empowering other young people in Scotland. We believe in other people and what we can achieve by working together. We look to harness and grow the abilities of young Scots and the extraordinary potential of future generations. As open-minded, tolerant, proud global citizens we are inspired by what the 21st century can bring. The YSI aim to be

well informed and welcome intellectual engagement and debate. The YSI believe in self-determination so that as a country we can be responsible and accountable for ourselves and so the Scottish people can have their voices heard in the international community. We strive for independence because we believe in democracy, as a system and as a virtue. We campaign so that the Scottish Parliament can represent and respond to the priorities, values and aspirations of the Scottish people, on every issue and at every level and strive for social justice. In this age of globalisation, it is only with financial and fiscal powers that Scotland can become a fairer and more successful country within our lifetimes.

⭐️ A brighter future for Aberdeen Beach.

The regeneration of Aberdeen Beach is one of the biggest investments in our city in over 30 years, creating a more vibrant, accessible and exciting space for local people and visitors alike.

With a new play park designed with young people in mind, a skatepark and a 2.5-hectare events field, this project will create opportunities for recreation, tourism and community events for years to come.

YSI North East welcomes this investment in our region and would like to recognise the work of Councillor Christian Allard and everyone involved in helping deliver this regeneration.

Today, our Secretary, Damir Glazko, attended the Turriff Show to support the local SNP branch with their stall and speak to members of the public about the SNP.

It was great to see such a positive response throughout the day and have so many engaging conversations with people from across the local community.

The North East has powered Scotland for generations, and the workers who have built our energy industry deserve certainty about their future.

Following BP’s decision to sell its North Sea business, YSI North East is sharing our statement on the impact this will have on workers, their families and communities, and why urgent action is needed to protect jobs, secure investment and deliver a just transition.

The devastating wildfires across the Cairngorms have highlighted the growing impact of climate change on our environment, wildlife and rural communities.

Today, YSI North East is sharing our statement on the events of the last 10 days, our thanks to the emergency services, and our belief that greater action is needed to protect Scotland’s environment.

Read our full statement below:
“YSI NE STATEMENT ON CAIRGORMS

YSI North East is extremely saddened by the situation unfolding over the last 10 days across the Cairngorms.

Climate change is no longer a distant threat for our future generations. It is here, it is accelerating, and Scotland is already paying the price.

Extreme weather is no longer rare in Scotland. Hotter, drier conditions increase the risk of devastating wildfires, threatening our wildlife, communities and natural heritage.

We are grateful to the emergency services and first responders, who have worked tirelessly in harsh conditions for the last 10 days. We owe our highest respect to those workers.

The lack of preparation for events like this must change and be quicker. This is a wake up call for politicians and the general public, and one we must heed.

Rapid action is needed on climate change to protect our wildlife and rural communities.

We thank the Scottish Government for the support given in the area’s affected.

A few months ago, YSI North East was inactive.

Since then, we’ve brought YSI North East back to life by reactivating our social media, welcoming new members, electing a committee, attending conferences, and creating new opportunities for young people across the North East.

This summer wasn’t just about rebuilding a branch, it was about building a community where young people feel welcome and encouraged to get involved.

And we’re only just getting started. 🤷‍♀️
