The devastating wildfires across the Cairngorms have highlighted the growing impact of climate change on our environment, wildlife and rural communities.
Today, YSI North East is sharing our statement on the events of the last 10 days, our thanks to the emergency services, and our belief that greater action is needed to protect Scotland’s environment.

“YSI NE STATEMENT ON CAIRGORMS
YSI North East is extremely saddened by the situation unfolding over the last 10 days across the Cairngorms.
Climate change is no longer a distant threat for our future generations. It is here, it is accelerating, and Scotland is already paying the price.
Extreme weather is no longer rare in Scotland. Hotter, drier conditions increase the risk of devastating wildfires, threatening our wildlife, communities and natural heritage.
We are grateful to the emergency services and first responders, who have worked tirelessly in harsh conditions for the last 10 days. We owe our highest respect to those workers.
The lack of preparation for events like this must change and be quicker. This is a wake up call for politicians and the general public, and one we must heed.
Rapid action is needed on climate change to protect our wildlife and rural communities.
We thank the Scottish Government for the support given in the area’s affected.
