💛 Promoted by Erin Nicholson on behalf of the North East. For Young People, By Young People 🎗️

The Young Scots for Independence (YSI) is committed to empowering other young people in Scotland. We believe in other people and what we can achieve by working together. We look to harness and grow the abilities of young Scots and the extraordinary potential of future generations. As open-minded, tolerant, proud global citizens we are inspired by what the 21st century can bring. The YSI aim to be well informed and welcome intellectual engagement and debate. The YSI believe in self-determination so that as a country we can be responsible and accountable for ourselves and so the Scottish people can have their voices heard in the international community. We strive for independence because we believe in democracy, as a system and as a virtue. We campaign so that the Scottish Parliament can represent and respond to the priorities, values and aspirations of the Scottish people, on every issue and at every level and strive for social justice. In this age of globalisation, it is only with financial and fiscal powers that Scotland can become a fairer and more successful country within our lifetimes.

Young people are the future of the North East, but too many are leaving.

With around 127,500 young people aged 15-30 living across the region. We should be making it easier for young people to stay, work and build a future here.

From graduate jobs and apprenticeships to affordable living and better transport, we need real opportunities for young people across the North East.

We’re 1 in 5. Our voices need to be part of the decisions shaping our future.

What do you think needs to change? 👇

🙌 YSI NORTH EAST COMMITTEE MEETING #2

Last night we held our first committee meeting since July welcoming our new Campaign Officer, Eilidh, and discussing our plans for the months ahead.

We looked back at the priorities we set at our last meeting and heard updates from across the committee, including our work reaching out to MPs and MSPs, building links with local SNP branches, creating opportunities to shadow elected representatives and developing new political education resources.

We also discussed our thoughts on the 2026 Programme for Government, plans for the 2027 council elections, upcoming campaign days and events, and how we can create more opportunities for young people to get involved in campaigning and political education.

Looking ahead, we’re working on improving accessibility, developing a newsletter to keep members informed, strengthening our links with local branches, and creating more opportunities for members to get involved - including potential youth officer roles within branches.

We want to turn the ideas we’ve discussed into real opportunities for our members and make sure everyone on our committee has a role in making that happen.

Our next committee meeting will be 1st October. There’s lots to get moving!

💚 Every day is Su***de Prevention Day.

September is National Su***de Prevention Month, but looking out for each other shouldn’t be limited to one month of the year.

Take the time to check in with the people around you. Listen, reach out, and don’t be afraid to start a conversation. You never know how much a simple message or knowing someone cares could mean.

If you’re struggling, please reach out. You are loved. You matter. You are not alone.

🗣️ A brilliant evening of discussion and collaboration with Aberdeenshire West!

Last night, we had the opportunity to introduce YSI North East to the Aberdeenshire West SNP Constituency Association and talk about our plans for the branch.

We spoke about why we reactivated YSI North East, what we’ve achieved so far and our priorities for getting more young people involved in politics, building an inclusive community and making sure young people’s voices are heard and represented.

We also discussed our plans for the months ahead, including more events, campaigning and outreach, visiting SNP branches across the North East and building links with colleges, universities and youth organisations.

We then had a great Q&A covering everything from engaging young people in politics and the rise of the Scottish Greens, to Scotland Independence and engaging with colleges and universities.

A huge thank you to Aberdeenshire West for having us and a warm thank you to Fatima Joji SNP for making this happen!
