IMPORTANT NEWS ABOUT THE FREEDOM PASS.

Freedom Pass service update

This briefing provides councillors with information about the temporary pause of the Freedom Pass online portal, the move to upgraded digital services, and the change to the way residents move from a 60+ Oyster photocard to an Older Person’s Freedom Pass.

1. Online portal unavailable
The Freedom Pass online portal will be temporarily unavailable from 5.00pm on Monday 31 August to 9.00am on Tuesday 15 September.
This is a planned pause to allow for the safe transfer of 1.5 million customer records and the implementation of a new system.
The upgraded digital services will make it easier and quicker for residents to apply online and track the progress of their application. They will also improve the long-term reliability and security of the service.

2. Existing Freedom Passes
Existing Freedom Passes will continue to work as normal during the pause.
There is no change to entitlement or travel benefits. The changes affect processes and systems only.

3. Estimated number of people affected
During this period, London Councils would normally expect to receive around 2,600 applications for Older Person’s and Disabled Person’s Freedom Passes, and around 3,000 replacement pass requests.

4. Impact on residents
Can residents apply during the pause? Residents will not be able to apply online while the portal is unavailable. Paper application forms for the Older Person’s Freedom Pass can still be used and will be prioritised when processing resumes. Residents applying for a Disabled Person’s Freedom Pass will continue to apply through their borough for the initial eligibility assessment.
What if a resident needs a replacement pass? Replacement pass requests cannot be processed while customer records are being moved to the new system. Residents will be able to request a replacement online or by telephone when the service reopens on 15 September. These requests will be prioritised and replacement passes will be sent by first-class post.

5. Change for 60+ Oyster photocard holders
60+ Oyster photocards no longer transfer automatically to an Older Person’s Freedom Pass. Residents now need to apply for an Older Person’s Freedom Pass when they become eligible.
This change follows changes to data-sharing arrangements with Transport for London.

6. The public ares encouraged to apply, request replacements or update their details by 5.00pm on Monday 31 August where possible.

A fantastic day in Petts Wood & Knoll today.
George started off helping the Friends of Hillview Hollow, the new community garden in the Knoll, clearing the laurels and creating space on the site. This was followed by Petts Wood Calling, where we were joined by the Mayor of Bromley.
Both fantastic examples of community in Petts Wood & Knoll, well done and thank you to the volunteers involved in making both possible!

In March, the Environment Agency (EA) commenced works to upgrade the debris screen situated on the Kyd Brook, at the end of Eynsford Close. The purpose of this is to reduce the flood risk in the area and ease maintenance requirements in the future. The EA have today provided the following update:

The works have been progressing well. However, we are waiting to receive the final materials required to complete the works.

This means that, while we are on track to complete construction by the end of September, there will be a period of demobilisation across August where we will not be on site. This will allow for the procurement and delivery of the remaining materials.

Once we have received the required materials, we will return to site for roughly two weeks to undertake the remaining work. We expect this to be in early September.

All construction activity will still occur between 8am and 5pm on weekdays and access to the car park at Petts Wood Recreation Ground will remain unchanged. We will also update local residents on Eynsford Close via a letter, which will be delivered on Saturday 1st August.
