International Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember the dead. Fight for the living.

Today we remember all those who lost their lives, or were injured, simply doing their jobs and we recommit to fighting for every worker’s right to be safe at work.

From the Covid inquiry hearings highlighting the risks faced by frontline workers.

The trade union movement will join others across the country in a minute’s silence to remember the dead and stand up for the living.

Listening to Joginder Bains speaking passionately regarding a formal letter presented to Government from the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre 1919 Campaign Committee, seeking a formal apology, also honour the Labour Party 2019 Manifesto pledge to include the teaching of colonial history in schools as an integral part of the National Curriculum.

The meeting being held at Westminster is being attended by multi religious, multi racial communities supported by cross party politicians and trade unions, attended by lords and minsters including John McDonnell Shaffaq Mohammed Gurinder Singh Josan Cbe Baggy Shanker who are all working tirelessly to raise awareness and seek historical truths in regards the humiliation and dehumanising events prior , during and after the massacre in Amritsar and five other Indian Districts - now in Pakistan.

It is our honour as political leads of The Communication Workers Union CWU Nottingham Cwu Derbyshire Branch to attend and hear people speaking passionately whilst seeking justice , acknowledgment and understanding. Our contribution during our address was a privilege to show support and solidarity:

My observations are this is not about religion, this about humanity and the need for education in regards colonialism and requires further support of the wider trade union movement to affiliate and promote the work the JMCC are undertaking.
