Last week, 14 of our Year 8 pupils attended the final Mega Hub Challenge Day, *Megamachines*, at Accrington and Rossendale College

Throughout the day, pupils took part in a range of exciting activities designed to develop their digital and problem-solving skills. They successfully completed a Lego robotics challenge, using coding to programme a vehicle called "Rhino" to move and complete tasks.

Students also explored the world of Artificial Intelligence, learning how to write effective prompts to generate images and discussing the importance of AI safety, including the risks of prompt injection and how AI systems can be manipulated.

The day finished with a cyber security challenge, where pupils worked together using industry-standard activities to solve problems and strengthen their cyber skills.

As well as developing new knowledge, students learned about the wide range of careers linked to technology, coding, AI and cyber security.

Our pupils represented Rhyddings brilliantly throughout the day, showing enthusiasm, teamwork and a willingness to challenge themselves.

Well done to everyone involved!

We’re delighted to share that Rhyddings has been awarded the School Games Gold Mark Award!

This national award recognises schools that go above and beyond in providing opportunities for young people to take part in PE, sport and competition.

The award reflects our commitment to:

⭐ Providing inclusive opportunities for all students
⭐ Taking part in a wide range of competitive fixtures and sporting events
⭐ Developing student leadership and volunteering opportunities
⭐ Building strong links with local clubs and community sport

This award recognises the effort and commitment shown by our students and staff across PE, school sport and competitions throughout the year. We are incredibly proud of everything they have achieved.

A huge thank you to everyone who has taken part, supported events, represented the school and embraced sport throughout the year. This Gold Mark belongs to all of you!

And just like that...

On their first day back in September our Year 11's stood and formed a Guard of Honour to welcome the new Year 7s to our school community.

Today, those same Year 7s returned the favour, lining the corridors to say goodbye as our Year 11s walked out of school for the last time after finishing their final exams.

It doesn't seem five minutes since they arrived with oversized blazers, new bags and a few nervous smiles. Now they're leaving as young adults, ready for the next chapter.

Good luck, Year 11. Thank you for the memories, the laughter and for being part of the Rhyddings family. We are proud of every one of you.

We love hearing about and celebrating the achievements of our former pupils.

Mohammed Ibrahim Iqbal attended Rhyddings between 2009 and 2014 and recently got in touch to share an update on his career journey.

Since leaving Rhyddings, Ibrahim has qualified as a Solicitor of England and Wales and now works as a Senior Solicitor, specialising in Family, Civil, Criminal and Immigration Law. He regularly represents clients in both the Magistrates’ Court and Crown Court. In December 2025, he was also appointed as a magistrate, enabling him to serve the community from a judicial perspective.

Ibrahim still lives in Accrington and remains proud of his roots. He says that the encouragement and support he received at Rhyddings helped give him the confidence to pursue his ambitions and continue his education. He would like to thank the staff who were at the school during his time here for the care, guidance and opportunities they provided.

We would like to congratulate Ibrahim on his achievements and wish him every success in his future career

If you are a former pupil, we would love to hear about your journey and achievements. Your story could help inspire our current generation of pupils. Please contact us at [email protected] .

We would like to thank Joe Bamford's free music lessons, https://www.freemusiclessons.charity/ for providing free guitar lessons for our pupils at Rhyddings.

We would also like to thank Dom Sanna for his work with our learners. Students have enjoyed the lessons and have developed a range of new musical skills and techniques.

Rhyddings via its extended services programme launched a creative arts initiative – ‘Journey Through Rail’

In collaboration with Community Rail and our resident artist, Alison Phelan, pupils have the opportunity to visit and explore cities and towns across the North of England.

As part of the project, pupils will be encouraged to capture their journeys through photography, documenting their experiences, discoveries, and reflections along the way. The photographs will then be exhibited at a Community Rail train station - ideally at Manchester Piccadilly station.

For our first visit, pupils from both Rhyddings and The Hollins visited the magical city of YORK.

One of the key aims of the project is to provide young people, particularly those who may not often have opportunities to travel beyond their local area the chance to explore new places beyond their postcode, broaden their horizons, and hopefully leave feeling inspired and transformed.

Our next destination is Skipton – which is considered the gateway to the Yorkshire dales.
