The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (RJAH) is a leading orthopaedic centre of excellence. A specialist hospital with a reputation for innovation, the Trust provides a comprehensive range of musculoskeletal (bone, joint and tissue) surgical, medical and rehabilitation services; locally, regionally and nationally. As such, the Trust serves the people of both Eng

land and Wales, as well as acting as a national healthcare provider. It also hosts some local services which support the communities in and around Oswestry. The hospital has nine inpatient wards including a private patient ward, ten operating theatres, as well as extensive outpatient and diagnostic facilities. Outreach clinics are held in neighbouring healthcare facilities to ensure that specialist services are provided as close to people’s homes as possible.

Ellie Orton OBE, CEO of NHS Charities Together, recently visited RJAH to see first-hand to see how charitable funding is helping to improve the experience of patients, staff and volunteers 👏

During her visit, Ellie met members of the Future Friends volunteering team from The League of Friends, heard about the positive impact of volunteering on young people, and toured the hospital's therapeutic garden spaces, including the Garden for Alice 🌻

She also saw a number of NHS Charities Together funded projects in action, including the Path of Positivity and a Workforce Wellbeing initiative in Theatres.

We're delighted to have been rated No 1 for overall patient experience in the latest edition of a major annual survey which has been published today.

Highlights in the Adult Inpatient Survey from the Care Quality Commission are:

🏆 Overall patient experience: RJAH rated No 1 in the country.

🏅Named as one of just eight Trusts to be an outlier by the CQC, delivering care "much better than expected".

🥇Ranked No 1 for overall care and treatment, meeting basic patient needs, and for our doctors. Our hospital nurses were ranked second overall, and first for trust and confidence.

🧹 Cleanliness of wards and rooms: We rated No 1, for the sixth year running, for patients reported that their room or ward was clean.

Congratulations to Katie Rogers and Kirsty Naden who represented the Catering Team represented RJAH at the NHS Chef of the Year 2026 competition 👩‍🍳

The duo were tasked with creating a three-course meal in 90 minutes, producing plant-based cauliflower buffalo wings with a hot cheese sauce, honey-garlic glazed salmon, coconut cauliflower rice and bok choy, and a strawberry pannacotta!

The team have been named a finalist in the Acute Sector Innovation of the Year category, recognising their pioneering approach to treating patients with Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome (GTPS).

The pathway provides information and support throughout your treatment journey and allows you to complete questionnaires about your pain, symptoms, and quality of life.

Your responses help us understand how effective treatments are and identify opportunities to improve patient care.

Two local knitting groups have been supporting dementia patients at RJAH with their kindness and creativity 🤍

The Crafty Knitters and St Mary's Knitters have generously made a selection of colourful dementia blankets and twiddle muffs for Sheldon Ward - where patients receive general medical care, dementia care and rehabilitation.

For patients living with dementia, small, familiar comforts can help them feel more settled in an unfamiliar hospital environment 🧶

The ward would welcome additional support from anyone who would like to contribute knitted items or safe tactile decorations.

A team of eight RJAH arthroplasty surgeons, joined by colleagues from MatOrtho and Johnson & Johnson, have completed the five-day GT26 Alpine Challenge 🛻

Travelling through six European countries in cars costing £2,000 or less, the teams tackled more than 2,000 miles of mountain roads to raise funds for League of Friends RJAH and Lila's Legacy 🩷

A very special celebration took place on Sheldon Ward today as Margaret and David Causer marked 50 years married! 🥂

Margaret, who has been a patient on the ward for around two months, was able to celebrate the special milestone with her husband thanks to the efforts of Activities Coordinator Michelle Williams.

The couple enjoyed a special lunch together in the Poppy Lounge, complete with delicious cakes and Nosecco, thanks to the Catering Department. Our Digital Team also helped make the celebration extra special by creating a slideshow featuring photographs from Margaret and David’s years together.

For the fourth consecutive year, an RJAH registrar has had the opportunity to take part in the prestigious AO Travelling Fellowship - funded by the Orthopaedic Institute 👏

Srin Cheruvu spent two weeks at the AO Research Institute in Davos, Switzerland, gaining insight into world-leading research and innovation in areas such as regenerative medicine, biomechanics, implant development and infection prevention.

The fellowship is helping to build international connections, strengthen research opportunities and bring valuable knowledge and experience back to RJAH 🔬
