We’re launching our first Christmas Card Competition for children aged 4–12!

🕯️ The theme is: Candle safety

We’d love children across Oxfordshire to get creative and design a Christmas card that helps share an important message about staying safe around candles this festive season.

🏆 The winner will get the chance to meet the crew at their local fire station!

🔴 🙌🏼 Congratulations to two members of Red Watch who successfully passed their driving training courses.

🚒 Ff Boath completed a week long LGV practical driving course. She will now be driving the Fire Engine at normal roads speeds to gain more road experience before going on to her Emergency Response Driving course in the near future.

🚨 Ff Curtis completed his 2 week long Emergency Response Driving & can now blue-light firefighters to incidents. Last night was his first shift as a driver where he quickly & safely blue-lighted our firefighters to 5 separate incidents 🙌🏼

👩🏻‍🚒 Ff Boath said “I always enjoyed seeing the fire engines blue-light past as a little girl, but I’ll admit I was a little apprehensive about actually learning to drive one. However, I thoroughly enjoyed my LGV course & now can’t wait to get the blues on for the next bit”.

👏🏻 Well done both, if you see either out & about in the fire engines remember to give them a wave. They might not be able to wave back but one of our firefighters always will 👋🏼

🙏🏼 Thanks to everyone who visited us here at the station over the weekend as we took part in the annual Oxford Open Doors event. We hope you all enjoyed it.

🙋We had lot’s of good questions from people of all ages, wanting to learn more about what we do, the equipment we use, and why we do things the way we do.

🪜 Well done to all our brave aspiring young firefighters who climbed up our 13.5m ladder to spot Drago the Dragon at the top 🐉

🍦 Thanks to Mr Diego Ice Cream who also joined us in his Ice Cream van, & very kindly donated to charity….plus some of our firefighters got a lovely free ice cream 🙌🏼

👀 For those who might of missed out we’ll see you all at next years Open Doors event…if not before.

On Saturday, whilst half of Red Watch were frolicking around in the water (see our previous post below 👇🏼) the other half had some friends over to play in the form of two fire crews from White Watch, BFRS High Wycombe Fire Station, who joined us here at Rewley Road.

Between Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire FRS, there are a lot of similarities in equipment & procedures. However, there are also many differences, so the opportunity to meet up & train together gives us a great insight & better understanding of how each other work. As county border neighbours we often need to work together at incidents.

🔴⚪️ After performing BA drills with a firefighter mix up of Rewley Reds & Wycombe Whites, the crews sat down for lunch together before taking a closer look over some of the kit differences we have between our fire engines.

🙏🏼 Thanks for joining us White Watch, we look forward to visiting High Wycombe in the near future & getting our gloves on some of your toys

Yesterday members of Red Watch attended a Water Rescue training course at HR Wallingford.

🌊 HR Wallingford houses several large indoor water basins which can be modified & adapted to carry out various training, research & studies.

🏖️ For the purposes of our training Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service (Official) training team use the water basin to simulate scenarios involving static, slow & fast moving waterways such as floodings & rivers for our firefighters training.

🛟 Using PPE & equipment carried on our fire engines, crews practiced using various techniques to carry out rescues & if needed their own self rescue.

Training in such a venue is a huge advantage in training for our firefighters…& it’s also a lot of fun😆
