📚 SUMMER SPOT! ☀️

Bank Holiday incoming… so obviously we needed a good book. 📖

We went straight to Oliver Mason owner of Gulp Fiction – a man whose knowledge of books is, frankly, almost encyclopaedic. Ahem. 😉

His summer pick? The Correspondent by Virginia Evans – a funny, moving novel told through letters and emails, and winner of the 2026 Women’s Prize for Fiction. Just the sort of book to disappear into over a long weekend.

And here’s another little spot while we’re at it… 👀

You can actually put Oliver's incredible book-detective powers to work with their Book Lovers’ Happy Hour. Tell him your reading and cocktail tastes and they’ll serve up three personalised courses of book recommendations and cocktails – with one book to take home from each course. 🍸📚🍸📚🍸📚

That’s 3 books + 3 cocktails for £60, with 10% off any extra books you buy during the experience.

Possibly the perfect Bank Holiday treat? We’ll leave you to ponder that one over a cocktail…

📍 Find Gulp Fiction in the Covered Market.

🌭 SUMMER SPOT! ☀️

Spotted: possibly the most gloriously low-effort Bank Holiday picnic in Oxford. 👀🧺

The Oxford Dogs Picnic Box is basically summer sorted in one cardboard box: 2 classic hot dogs, 2 giant soft pretzels, loaded cheesy nachos and 2 cold drinks – all packed up and ready to take wherever the day leads you. 🌭🥨🧀🥤

Perfect for a spontaneous park stop, a day exploring Oxford or simply when making your own picnic feels like far too much admin.

And because the box is cardboard, it’s a more planet-friendly way to picnic too. 🌿 Just remember to take your litter home with you when the feasting is done.

Fresh, filling, grab-and-go and requiring precisely zero sandwich preparation. We approve. 😎 📍 Available every day at Oxford Dogs in the Covered Market.

🍷 SUMMER SPOT! ☀️

Alright, we’ll admit it… we didn’t technically spot this one. We asked the wonderful Stuey at The Market Cellar Door for his top summer pick – and he came straight back with AIX Provence Rosé. 🌸

His verdict? A premium, mouthwatering rosé that’s just the thing for sunny-day sipping.

And if you’re wondering what to serve alongside it, Stuey recommends a summery Niçoise salad, grilled prawns straight from the BBQ or – if you’re feeling particularly fancy – oysters. 🦪✨

Basically, summer in a bottle. We’ll raise a glass to that. 🥂

📍 Find it at The Market Cellar Door in the Covered Market.

🍺 SUMMER SPOT! ☀️

Well, with a name like Summer is Here, we really couldn’t walk past this one. 👀

Brewed locally by Hanbrewery, the team behind Teardrop Bar, this seasonal pale ale only makes an appearance once a year – which, given the British summer, feels entirely appropriate. 😎

Young elderflowers foraged from the Oxfordshire countryside are infused with pale malt to create a floral, hoppy and seriously refreshing ale – basically a little taste of summer in a glass.

It's 4.9% and vegetarian too, it’s just the thing to add a bit of extra summer style to the weekend. 🍻

📍 Find it at Teardrop Bar in the Covered Market.

🧀 Do you know what affinage means?

It’s the art of maturing and caring for cheese to bring out its very best flavour – and while it's a fairly rare practice in the UK, it’s something The Oxford Cheese Company has been doing for over 40 years!

For our latest Meet the Trader, we caught up with founder Robert Pouget to discover how his cheese journey began, why he chose the Covered Market as his home, what makes a really special cheese and, of course, his top picks for the Summer.

If you love cheese, this one’s definitely for you. 🧀❤️

👉 Read our interview with Robert and get to know one of the Market’s long-standing independent businesses.

🌻 SUMMER SPOTS! 🌻

🧦☀️ We spotted these brilliant Sunflower Socks at Socktopus and, frankly, they might just be the happiest socks in the Market. Bursting with summery sunflower style, they’re also doing some good while looking fabulous.

Socktopus supports a number of charities through its sock collections, and these beauties are raising money for Beth’s Sunflowers – a charity created in memory of Beth, which raises funds and awareness to support people affected by blood cancer. 🌻💛

So you can add a little sunshine to your sock drawer and support a wonderful cause at the same time.

Now that’s what we call putting your best foot forward. 😎

📍 Find them at Socktopus in the Covered Market.
