Your table awaits!
Our Terrace Tea Room opens out along the terrace in front of Prideaux Place - and we’re confident in saying that from our tables you have one of the best views in Cornwall.
You look across the deer park to the village of Rock on the opposite shore of the River Camel. From there your gaze will travel to the far horizon - Bodmin Moor, the granite upland at the heart of Cornwall, outlined against the sky. And there are the two highest peaks in Cornwall: Rough Tor at 400 metres and Brown W***y at 420 metres.
The Terrace Tea Room is open Monday to Friday, from 10.30 a.m. until 4.30 p.m., serving teas and coffees and alcohol, soft drinks together with toasted tea cakes, cream teas and cakes.

The Susannah Room at Prideaux Place boasts not only a beautiful moulded lime plaster ceiling, but also a set of hand made chairs.
Each chair was made for a member of the Prideaux Brune family - their initials are carved into the back rail of ‘theirs’, and the family shield is carved into the back rest.
They were made by Terry Roscoe, Estate Manager at Prideaux Place. He lived with his wife Peggy at Trenio, a hamlet just outside Padstow. Terry was a self taught cabinet maker: having found a book in a library detailing the work of Thomas Chippendale, an eighteenth century master cabinet maker, he used the illustrations to teach himself the techniques cabinet makers used.
Terry developed a remarkable talent for the craft, and so, as Elisabeth Prideaux Brune says: “The art of making furniture still survives into the twenty first century”.

All of us at Prideaux Place have been so touched and grateful for the generosity of the good folk of Padstow with their donations of food for the deer herd. Bags of apples and carrots have been arriving and supplementing the special feed being brought in.
This means the deer now have the proper balance of nutrition to sustain their health during this exceptionally dry weather. A vet has been visiting to check on the herd and is pleased with their progress, especially that of the babies.
We are immensely grateful for these contributions - thank you

Here’s a plate full of Cornish flavours: the Ploughmans, from our lunch menu by chef Angus in our Terrace Tea Room.
Like most of our lunch menu dishes, it lends itself to sharing. So if two of you want no more than a savoury snack, or don’t feel like eating much on a hot day, just ask the staff for an extra plate and knife and fork; they’ll be happy to help.
Then you can split the cheese scone, divide the cheddar cheese and take it in turns for a forkfull of pineapple chutney. Share out the pulled smoked gammon and go halves with the potato salad and the red cabbage slaw. All home made by chef Angus.
Lunches are served in our Terrace Tea Room from 12 noon until 2.30 p.m., Monday to Friday. The Tea Room is open all day from 10.30 a.m. until 4.30 p.m. serving teas and coffees and soft drinks together with cakes and cream teas.

There are several shady walks in the gardens around Prideaux Place. This is one of them - an area of woodland left lightly cultivated - which is thick with wild garlic and bluebells in the Spring. At this time of year however when the temperatures are high and the sun is hot, a stroll through the trees is a refreshing delight.
Our gardens are open Monday to Friday, from 10.30 a.m. until 4.30 p.m. Admission is £5.00 per adult, and admission to the gardens is included in the price of the house tour. Dogs are most welcome but on a lead please.

Prideaux Place welcomes many German speaking visitors, and we employ German speakers to take them around and show them the delights of the house.
One of our German guides is Andrea, and she told us that her favourite object in the house is a German edition of ‘Alice in Wonderland’. Andrea pulled it off its shelf in the Library to show us and said, “I love this book, I love the drawings - they’re delightful - and I will always show it to the people on my tours. Everything about it is charming!”
‘Alice in Wonderland’, by Lewis Carroll, was published in 1865 with illustrations by John Tenniel. His illustrations have been used in this edition of the book, which is printed in old Gothic script. All our favourite characters are there: Alice herself, the White Rabbit, the Red Queen, the Cheshire Cat.
It’s a classic English children’s tale well loved by generations, adapted for film and television countless times and still in print.
The Library can be seen during a tour of the house. Public tours are conducted Monday to Friday, starting at 11.00 a.m., on the hour, with the last one at 3.00 p.m.
