The terrace outside Prideaux Place has a wonderful view of our deer park. You can wrap up warm and sit with a hot drink to watch our deer being fed.
Jim, the herd manager, tries to take time out of his busy schedule to feed the deer at around 2.00 p.m. every afternoon. It’s so lovely to see how the deer flock to Jim - they know the yellow bucket means treats!
A cup or tea or coffee, something stronger perhaps (we’re fully licensed), from the Terrace Tea Room with which to relax and enjoy the view.

Doesn’t this look good? It’s one of the new-this-year dishes on the lunch menu in our Terrace Tea Room.
Chef Angus builds the plate with a slab of focaccia slathered in buttered leeks and melted blue cheese. A little more flavour is added with creme fraiche and honey, sprinkled with thyme. This is laid beside mixed leaves drizzled with home made dressing.
Lunches are served in our Terrace Tea Room from 12 noon until 2.30 p.m., Monday to Friday.

We’ve rolled out the blue carpet! Swathes of bluebells are appearing in the shadier parts of the gardens here at Prideaux Place.
Bluebells are a protected species in the UK, they form a beautiful understory to our native woodlands and are often described as one of Britain’s favourite flowers.
There are two species: the ‘English’ bluebell is the native species and bears flowers on one side of its stem which droops gracefully. The other is known as the “Spanish” bluebell and its flowers encircle its more upright stem.
However these two species have now hybridised naturally to produce a variety which combines the growth habits of both, making it hard to distinguish which of them you are admiring! Bumble bees love the rich pollen and nectar produced by bluebells of either species.
And they’ve had their uses in the past - the bulbs, although poisonous to humans, provided a starch the Elizabethans used to stiffen their extravagant collars, and made a glue for book binding.
Our gardens are open at 10.30 a.m. and close at 4.30 p.m., Monday to Friday. Dogs are very welcome, on a lead please.

Generations of children brought up in the house have called this the pirate’s chest! However it’s more properly called a ‘Nanban Coffer’.
The interior is timber with intricate flower designs and is believed to have been made in India before being taken to Japan to have the exterior decorated with mother of pearl. It is thought to have been made for the Portuguese market in around 1580. How it comes to be standing here in Prideaux Place nobody knows. Could it have been seized from a ship which went down off the Cornish coast? Perhaps. To our knowledge only one other such chest exists in the UK, and that is in the V&A in London.
Just one of the many beautiful and intriguing objects to be seen during a tour of the house.
The house opens to the public on Easter Monday, 6th April. Tours are conducted Monday to Friday, starting at 11.00 a.m., on the hour with the last one at 3.00 p.m.

At the moment the kitchen attached to our Terrace Tea Room is eerily quiet and empty. But it won’t be long before chef Angus brings in his home made relishes and spice mixes, and then the kitchen comes back to life with the delicious aromas rising from the lunches he’ll be preparing.

Our gardens are open at the same times, and are perfect for a relaxing wander. Dogs are very welcome on a lead please.
