Policing at the Riviera Airshow

31/05/2026

The Paignton Neighbourhood Policing Team would like to extend our warm congratulations to Torbay Council for delivering another fantastic Riviera Airshow. It was a brilliant weekend that brought our community together to enjoy breathtaking displays, seaside smiles, and plenty of family fun.

A huge thank you to the public for their patience, support, and good spirits throughout the event, and to our neighbourhood policing colleagues from across South Devon who joined us to help keep everyone safe and ensure the show ran smoothly. From the skies above to the promenade below, it was a true team effort—and we’re proud to have played our part in helping another Riviera Airshow soar to success! ✈️☀️👏

Welcome to everyone visiting the English Riviera Airshow

We’re expecting a large number of visitors across Paignton, Torbay and the seafront, so please plan ahead and allow extra time for travel.

If you’re enjoying the sunshine, remember to stay hydrated, keep an eye on children near the water, and never leave dogs in hot vehicles.

Our officers will be out and about throughout the whole weekend, so come and say hello 👋

Have a safe and enjoyable weekend enjoying the fantastic airshow!

👮🏼 Dawlish Warren Beach – Police Engagement Update

During the evening of Friday 22 May, following information and intelligence received, officers from our Neighbourhood Teams across South Devon attended Dawlish Warren Beach in response to reports of a large number of young people gathering in the area, some of which had travelled to Dawlish from all over the South Devon area.

Our approach was focused on engagement and education. We recognise that young people want to socialise and enjoy themselves; however, it is important this is done in a safe and responsible manner.

Officers engaged positively with those present, resulting in constructive interactions. While the majority of people were cooperative and respectful, a large number of alcohol seizures were made.

Our primary concern was the safety of the public, particularly given the number of young people present, with many being under the influence of alcohol, on a beach with the tide coming in. Our clear aim was to safeguard those present and ensure everyone was able to leave the area safely.

We would like to thank those who engaged with officers and understood the reasons for our presence and actions.

It is disappointing that officers were also required to assist in clearing litter from the beach afterwards, and we would urge everyone to take responsibility for the environment.

We are aware of further planned gatherings across South Devon. We will continue to take a proactive approach, working to engage and educate. We also ask parents and guardians to consider the risks associated with large, unsupervised public gatherings when making decisions about their children attending such events.

LATEST | Information has been received that planned gatherings involving young people have been arranged in locations across South Devon today, 22 May.

While the majority are good natured and will no doubt want to make the best of the good bank holiday weather, there have been recent incidents involving large groups of young people which have led to antisocial behaviour and community disruption.

In response to those events and today’s information, officers will be carrying out increased high-visibility patrols in known areas and will utilise such powers as Section 35 dispersal orders if considered appropriate.

These orders give officers enhanced powers to prevent antisocial behaviour, reduce disruption and keep the public safe.

What this means:
• Officers can direct individuals or groups to leave the area immediately.
• Those directed must not return within the specified time period.
• Failure to comply is a criminal offence and may result in arrest.
• Anyone under the age of 16 may be taken home or to a place of safety.

Robust action will be taken where necessary.

We thank the community for their continued support and encourage anyone with concerns to contact us via the Force website: https://orlo.uk/mNVv8 or by telephone on 101, quoting log 418 of 22 May.

With temperatures rising and a busy Bank Holiday weekend ahead, we’re expecting plenty of people to be out enjoying the sunshine in Paignton. ☀️

Please remember to stay safe, look after each other, keep hydrated, and plan ahead if you’re travelling or enjoying a few drinks.

A polite reminder too that the roads, beaches and the town etc are likely to be much busier than usual, so patience goes a long way for everyone, including emergency services.

Please also remember that dogs should never be left in hot cars, even for a few minutes or with windows open. Temperatures inside vehicles can rise dangerously fast and put animals at serious risk.

We’d also ask that celebrations remain sensible. Especially if you’re an Arsenal fan still celebrating winning the league… unfortunately for the admin writing this, who supports Man City, we’ve heard enough about it already. 😅

Have a great weekend, enjoy the weather responsibly, and if you can, check in on neighbours, friends or relatives who may struggle in the heat.

We are pleased to share that Paignton Neighbourhood Team now has access to a new mobile CCTV unit which can be deployed across the town whenever and wherever it is needed.

This additional resource will help us monitor areas affected by anti-social behaviour, gather evidence, reassure the public and support our ongoing work to keep communities safe.

The mobile CCTV van will soon be deployed in known ASB hotspot locations including White Rock, The Esplanade and Paignton town centre.

We hope the presence of this unit will act as a deterrent and provide reassurance to residents, businesses and visitors alike.

Please continue to report incidents of anti-social behaviour to us so we can target patrols and resources where they are needed most.
