We recently visited six licensed premises in Paignton checking for illegal drugs with the help of Police Dog Jasper and his handler. The Pubs Against Drugs operation, which aimed to disrupt the use of recreational drugs by deterring people from using, carrying or supplying drugs, took place on a busy Friday night.

We would like to thank the local community and encourage reporting of drugs offences in the area – we are interested in information no matter how big or small it may seem.

Several stop searches were carried out during the operation, which resulted in five people being found in possession of small quantities of drugs. Each admitted the offence and was issued with a Community Resolution. They agreed to complete an online diversionary course designed to discourage future drug use and increase awareness of the impact drugs can have, not only on individuals themselves but also on the wider community.

We generally find overwhelming support from our local communities as we deliver these initiatives and, as summer draws to a close, we want to reiterate that illegal drugs are not welcome in South Devon. To report online visit our website https://orlo.uk/MX0t4

Bank Holiday! | Have a safe TRIP

Follow the T.R.I.P. checks every driver needs to perform to keep themselves, their passengers and other road users safe.

TOP UP your fuel or battery, oil and screen wash
REST with planned stops of at least 15 minutes every two hours
INSPECT tyre pressure, tread depth and for cracks or tears before setting out
PREPARE for all weather conditions…it may be very hot, or we may have rain and thunderstorms

We’ll add that SPEED limits are there for your safety, they are not a target. Drive within the limit and to prevailing road, weather and traffic conditions. So, TRIPS: as easy to remember as TRIP.

☀️ Whilst the recent heatwaves have left much of Paignton dry and yellow, officers managed to locate a large patch of greenery during the ex*****on of a Misuse of Drugs Act Warrant today.🪴

Cannabis cultivation fuels wider criminal activity, exploiting vulnerable people and causing significant harm to individuals, families and communities. We will continue to take action against all of those involved. ⚖️

One male has been arrested and has since been released on bail whilst enquiries continue. 🌏

A proactive stop check by officers on Patrol in Paignton yesterday has resulted in the seizure of suspected drugs and a quantity of cash believed to be in the tens of thousands of pounds.

A male was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply and driving without insurance.

Sometimes a routine stop can uncover something a little more interesting than an overdue MOT reminder. 👀

Our proactive work helps take suspected drugs and illicit cash off the streets, while also tackling offences that can put other road users at risk.

The investigation is ongoing, and the cash and substances will be subject to further enquiries.

Stay vigilant: Counterfeit currency

Following reports of counterfeit currency circulating in the area, we’re reminding residents and local businesses to stay alert for counterfeit banknotes.

When accepting cash, take a moment to check the note carefully. Look for the security features and compare it with a note you know to be genuine.

If you’re unsure about a note:
• Don’t pass it on or attempt to spend it.
• Keep it separate from genuine cash.
• Report your concerns to your bank or the relevant authorities.
• If you believe someone is deliberately trying to use counterfeit currency, report it to police.

Businesses are encouraged to ensure staff know how to identify suspicious notes and what to do if one is presented.

A few seconds of vigilance can help prevent fraud.
