Heave.....Ho! One of the original iron struts of the building's awning being moved in the building. We have saved these, that used to adorn the monastery 's southeast-facing side, to hopefully rebuild in line with the original design.

Our heart is so happy to see the first signs of change.

B-Dry Roofing Specialists have yesterday started erecting scaffolding on the northwestern facing side of the building, ready to action the roof repairs in the coming days.

We are so flattered by the interest shown in our project.

Thank you to each and every one of the hundreds of people that yesterday cheered, toured, gardened, but most importantly, supported our beautiful building and grounds.

With interest from the BBC, local press, radio stations, archiologists, historians and architects, we feel absolutely justified in the reasons we initially had for wanting the building saved.

We've got all our doors open airing the place out for tomorrow 💨💨💨💨💨💨

We have some tools available for the gardening work, but feel free to bring your own also if you are joining in. Unfortunately the water in the building is still off, and as such WC facilities will be unavailable. Cold refreshments and water will be available to purchase, also via ice cream van on site.

We will be using all of the car park for the event, so please consider walking if you are local.

Various photographers will be around during the day, just let us know you do not wish to be in promotional material.

We can't wait to see you for this brilliant cause. Thank you all. 🙏🏻

Notes from our Chair for Sunday's event;

Hello Supporters of Paignton Monastery!

COME AND JOIN OUR MONESTARY OPENING CELEBRATIONS ON SUNDAY!

At long last we are starting the process of renovating and restoring our lovely Monastery Chapel to begin a new life again as a Community Hub for you all to use and enjoy,

Please join us this Sunday 16th August at 11am until 4pm for the Grand Opening Ceremony to open the doors for you to take a look for yourselves.

There will be a band with Time & Tide inspired folk music, followed by more music, ribbon cutting, meet the Directors, information and history, guided tours (hard hats and face masks provided for groups of about 6 at a time), ice cream van, a small table sale to raise funds for Monastery repairs and enjoy the lovely woods surrounding the Monastery.

Please - no smoking
Dogs on leads only
No dogs in the building because of rubble on paws
No under 18s in the building - sorry because of insurance until building repairs phase 1 completed
Under 16’s need parental supervision at all times

We hope you might be able to join everyone after in a BRAMBLE BASH!
The weeds, ivy and undergrowth desperately need cutting back around the grounds just around the Monastery, so, if you feel fit and brave(!) bring secateurs or other useful tools (not electric), gardening gloves, stout shoes and have a go with your neighbours. Adults only please for this as there just might be bits of glass or broken metal lying in wait plus prickles!

For over 100 years, Mary has looked out over our Bay from high up.

And you probably never even noticed......

Not many have. Sadly, when her lights went out, when the trees grew higher than the building, she was no longer a beacon for the area like she used to be.
