Pupils from Barsail Primary School share the jobs they want to do when they grow up. They’ve been learning about the skills they use in the classroom and how this links with their future career ambitions. All schools in the Park Mains catchment area are learning the same 6 key skills. It’s part of our Developing the Young Workforce programme, supported by Skills Development Scotland.

Venues across Renfrewshire will be opening up for Doors Open Days on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 September.

This is your opportunity to discover hidden and normally inaccessible places, wander through buildings you've often admired from the outside, and return to locations you haven't visited since you were a child.

Buildings open across the weekend include:
• John Neilson Institute
• Stanely House
• Kilbarchan Weaver’s Cottage
• Inchinnan’s All Hallows Graveyard
• Tannahill’s Cottage

There’s also lots of free activity taking place across Renfrewshire as part of Doors Open Days, including:
• Tours of Oakshaw and Renfrew Old Parish graveyards with Heritage Buddies
• Children’s activities and storytelling at Kilbarchan Smile
• Art exhibition at Erskine Arts
• Textile workshops at Johnstone Textile Space
• Bridge openings at Renfrew’s Bascule Bridge

Sma’ Shot Cottages will be open to the public on Renfrewshire’s Doors Open Days. The 18th-century weaver’s cottages is a glimpse into Paisley’s weaving heritage. Visitors can discover how families lived and worked during the town’s textile heyday. Renfrewshire’s Doors Open Days take place on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 September. Paisley’s Anchor Mill is one of over 50 locations in Renfrewshire opening doors to the public for Doors Open Days.

The building, once part of the cotton mill industry, was renovated in 2001. It now houses offices and apartments. Visitors on Doors Open Days can take a rare look inside the building and find out more about the renovation.

Johnstone Fire Engine Rally returns to Houstoun Square for the first time since 2019.

The event begins at 11am on Saturday 15 August. Fire engines from days past and present will parade from Johnstone Fire Station on Kings Road. They’ll arrive at Houstoun Square.

A host of family fun activities will be available between 12pm and 4pm at Houstoun Square. You can enjoy:
• a display of historic fire engines
• safety demonstrations from the Fire Service
• live performances in the bandstand
• Johnstone Business Consortium's indoor market
• free facepainting and walkabout performers.

The event is organised in partnership with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Heritage Trust.
