Pebworth Fire Station

🚒☀️🔥Yesterday at 14:41 the Pebworth crew was mobilised to a well alight barn fire in Bretforton alongside multiple crews from both Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service and Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Given the recent weather and location of this incident there were major concerns for the standing crop surrounding the building. Thankfully through excellent coordination and the joint efforts of everyone involved it was contained to just the barn. As the day went on and good progress was made, the incident slowly started to scale down with the Pebworth crew leaving the incident at 23:30 being relieved by another HWFRS appliance. This was a physically demanding incident made worse by the high heat and lack of shade. This just goes to show that our crews are ready and able to deal with anything no matter the circumstances to protect our communities acting with the utmost professionalism!

A big thanks to all crews involved yesterday, achieving a great stop and preventing what could’ve been a much more dire situation.👨🏻‍🚒☀️

Last night the crew took part in a HAZMAT drill. This simulated a chemical spillage which required the use of GTS (Gas Tight Suits) to protect the crew member from any of the hazards associated with this chemical. This could be in a solid, liquid or gas form. Once the chemical was located, information including a UN number and an approximate capacity was then relayed back to the entry control operative and the Driver who could then provide important information on how to deal with it using our MDT chemdata on the truck☢️☣️

This drill was a good way to simulate what crews would have to deal with on a real job like this and to also keep our knowledge and skills up to date. It was also an excellent opportunity to get some workbook evidence signed off for some of our development firefighters! 2 of which have now submitted their folders for their firefighter competency.👨🏻‍🚒🤞🏼

At this week’s drill night the crew went back to basics with some combi drills! 💪🏼

We practiced ladders, pumping and getting FF media to work hauled aloft into the drill tower. We were treated to some great weather which resulted in a lovely sunset.

The early summer weather is an indicator that our busy period is soon to begin! ☀️🔥🚒

AWARENESS 🚒 | Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service are asking people to give plenty of thought to the needs of the emergency services when they park, remembering to ensure that much larger vehicles can get through, especially in narrow streets.

Which streets are the worst for this?

“We know that some streets were not designed for the number of cars that residents wish to park in them but please bear in mind that a fire engine is 2.5m or around 1.5 car widths,” said Station Commander Amy Bailey of the HWFRS Community Risk Department.

“Have you left enough space for a fire engine to get through because every second can count when someone needs our help?

“Bad parking can delay fire engines and emergency vehicles from reaching serious incidents in your area and could be putting the lives of your families, friends and neighbours at risk.

“The way cars are parked could be the difference between the emergency services being able to save a life or not.”

When parking, please:

🔹Park close to the kerb
🔹Park straight with wheels straight
🔹Fold in wing mirrors
🔹In narrow streets only park on one side of the road (where possible)
🔹Obey the Highway Code and road markings such as yellow lines and box junctions
🔹Do not park too close to corners or traffic calming measures
🔹Leave extra room at tight junctions
remember every second counts when someone needs our help
