We’re aware of posts on various social media pages reporting that a gull was attacked in St Ives on the afternoon of Wednesday 10 June.

If you witnessed the incident or have relevant footage, please get in touch as soon as possible by calling 101 or filling in a form on our website, quoting 50260148881.

**UPDATE- Apologies for any confusion, we have had reports in relation to this matter, hence the crime reference number above- but we are also appealing for anyone to come forward if they haven't already (quoting the above number), and asking for anyone who has any footage or knows the male in the images online to contact us.

Sorry if this has caused confusion, but we do have this logged and will be following the crime up.

Today, officers from the Penzance Neighbourhood Team attended the Promenade to support the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride, raising awareness for men’s health.
It was fantastic to see such a strong turnout, with so many riders and supporters coming together for such an important cause. The team really enjoyed meeting members of the community and being part of such a positive event.
A big thank you to everyone who took part and helped make the day a success 👏 And a big shout out to newly qualified Motorcycle PC Rowan who came in on his day off to help!

Inspector Dee Evans, Penzance, Hayle, St Ives and Isles of Scilly Sector Inspector, alongside PC Jade Smith, the new Neighbourhood Beat Manager for Marazion, were pleased to attend the appointment of Richard Stokoe as the new Mayor of Marazion.

On Wednesday this week, Penzance Neighbourhood team, aided by the Neighbourhood Support Team and Operational Support Unit executed a Section 23 Misuse of Drugs Act search warrant at an address in Gwavas, Newlyn. A quantity of Class A and B drugs were located and a male from the address was arrested on suspicion of Possession with Intent to Supply Class A and B Drugs. He was later released on Bail whilst enquiries continue.

❗ Prolific shoplifter with suspended sentence now behind bars❗

A 49-year-old man who was handed a suspended sentence for shoplifting has now been jailed after being caught stealing again a week later.

Paul Restall, of Harrison Gardens [Illogan] was given an eight-week suspended sentence on 16 February following a spate of four shopliftings and a breach of his criminal behaviour order.

The Cornwall local will now spend 18-weeks in prison after stealing from Co-op in St Ives and Tesco in Penzance just ten days after his initial conviction.

Restall appeared at Truro Magistrates Court on Tuesday 14 April where he admitted to the two thefts which took place on 26 and 28 February.

We take business crime seriously - we'll continue to work with our local retailers to target prolific offenders to disrupt, deter and prevent theft from taking place.

More illegal vehicles seized by Cornwall Neighbourhood Support team.

Please stop! Here is a gentle reminder they are illegal on the Road, they can and have caused serious injury to riders and pedestrians.

An E-bike is an Electrically Pedal-Assisted Cycle (EPAC):
The Motor should only assist while you’re pedalling.
Assistance should cut out at 15.5 mph (25 km/h). (Motor power ≤ 250 W)
If your bike can propel itself on battery power alone without you pedalling, it’s not an EPAC. That makes it legally treated as a motor vehicle, meaning:
You’d need tax, insurance, registration (V5C) and a driving licence appropriate to the class. You’d have to follow vehicle rules (helmet laws vary by class, road access limits, etc.).
If it only has assist, while pedalling and stops assisting above 15.5 mph, it is fine. Anything that drives you without pedalling is not a legal e-bike.
UK law - isn’t ambiguous — pedal-only assist, not throttle-only propulsion beyond assist, is the whole point of “electrically assisted cycle.”

During a Hot Spot Patrol of Penzance Town Centre this week, officers were on the lookout for a male who had reportedly breached his Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) at the weekend. He was located on Market Jew Street in breach of his order and ran from the officers who quickly caught and arrested him. Jack KEANE was charged with 2 breaches of his CBO and a public order offence. He was remanded to the next available Court where he was given a 24 week prison sentence. The Penzance Town Marshalls assisted in the arrest and we thank them for their continued hard work in tackling Anti Social Behaviour which can be a complex issue, and one which requires input and action from more than just the police.
