CBO | A woman who wasted police time with false allegations about neighbours and officers has been made subject to a three-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO).

Tara Owen, 32, from Whittington, was found guilty of causing wasteful employment of the police when she appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court on Friday 21 August.

Owen’s CBO follows an incident in February where she made a false report to police claiming an offence had been committed. She was fined £200 for the offence alongside the order being granted.

Owen’s CBO, which applies anywhere in England and Wales, lasts until 16 July 2029 and means she is prohibited from the following: -

• Contacting three named individuals;

• Record or film any person, unless this action is agreed by the person being filmed or for a lawful purpose or through incidental capture;

• Report false and/or malicious allegations to West Mercia Police or any other agency or organisation;

• Behave in any manner that is likely to cause a nuisance to other residents or their visitors in the locality of where you live or where you are visiting.

Safer Neighbourhood Inspector for Pershore, Becky Williams, said: “We are pleased to get this CBO for Owen whose malicious allegations about neighbours and the police officers and agencies who dealt with her wasted police time and caused upset to those involved.

“Making false reports or deliberately wasting police time is not a harmless act. It can divert resources away from critical incidents, increase costs to the public, and potentially put lives at risk.

“We will always investigate credible reports to the police, which is why those who knowingly misuse our resources can expect to be held accountable like Owen has been."

Fire on Three Springs Road in Pershore

Emergency services continue to respond to a large fire on Lancelott Court, off Three Springs Road in Pershore.

The initial call was received at around 4.30pm today (Thursday 13th August) with temperatures in the town reaching highs of 38 degrees earlier in the day.

One person has been treated for smoke inhalation. Thankfully no other injuries have been reported at this time.

A number of homes have been damaged, and 30 properties in the area have been evacuated. A rest centre is in place at Pershore Leisure Centre to support residents who are currently unable to return home. We are grateful to both British Red Cross and St John’s Ambulance for the support they are offering people at the rest centre.

Residents in the wider area who have not been evacuated are advised to keep windows and doors closed as a precaution due to remaining smoke and smoulder in the area.

Surrounding roads will remain closed for the time being but they will be reopened as soon as it’s safe to do so. This is to ensure public safety and allow emergency services to continue their work as quickly and effectively as they can.

We recognise this will be an upsetting time for the local community and would like to thank you for your patience and cooperation while we respond to the incident.

SENTENCED | A Pershore man has today (Thursday 6 August) been sentenced to 11 years and nine months in prison for multiple non-recent s*xual abuse offences against a child.

Martin Cowley, 70, of Checketts Close, Pinvin, was found guilty of 14 counts of indecent assault on a girl under the age of 16 years at Worcester Crown Court on Thursday 14 May following a four-day trial.

Cowley was today sentenced to 11 years and nine months for his crimes which date back to the 1990s.

He was also ordered to sign the s*x offenders register for life, made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) which bans him from contacting under 18s, and handed a 15-year restraining order not to contact his victim.

The offences were first reported to police in 2023 which led to the charges and trial.

Detective Sergeant Louise Sutton, of the Protecting People Unit (PPU), said: “We are pleased to get this custodial sentence against Cowley whose victim was only a child at the time. He may have thought he had got away with his disgusting crimes but today shows he has not escaped justice.

“We would like to pay tribute to the victim for their courage in coming forward and giving the evidence to us that has led to this successful prosecution. They have waited 30 years for this day.

“We hope today’s sentencing will help them to move on with their lives and that it encourages other victims of s*xual abuse to come forward.

“We will always listen to you and act where appropriate no matter how long ago the offences took place.”

Police Sergeant Duncan Eades, from the Evesham Town Centre Team, said: "Theft from vehicles can happen anywhere and offenders will often look for opportunities where they can quickly access a vehicle and leave the area unnoticed.

“With the hot weather we are experiencing, we know people may be tempted to leave windows slightly open while parked, but we'd encourage residents to remain cautious and take a moment to secure their vehicle before leaving it unattended.

“We want everyone to enjoy the summer safely and these simple steps can help reduce the chances of vehicles being targeted."

Appeal after watch stolen in Pershore

We are appealing to the public for help after a watch was stolen in Pershore on Saturday (25 July).

The victim was in the men’s toilets in Asda on King Georges Way around 2.30pm and took the watch off to wash his hands. It was placed on the side and the victim forgot to pick the watch back up and left without it.

He returned a short time later after realising but the watch was gone.

An officer looking into the theft is appealing for the public to get in contact if they have any information which may help or if they see the watch being advertised for sale anywhere.

APPEAL | Suspected stolen goods recovered following police pursuit

Officers are appealing to identify the owners of suspected stolen goods which were recovered after an attempted burglary and subsequent police pursuit.

Police were called to an address in Crowle in Worcestershire on Wednesday 22 July, after a report that several unknown men in a car had pulled onto the property and threatened people carrying out work there. They then left the area.

Officers quickly identified the suspect vehicle and following a short pursuit, two men in their 20s were arrested on suspicion of robbery.

A car recovered contained several items which are suspected to be stolen, and officers are carrying out enquiries to establish who the rightful owners are.

UPDATE | Officers have today (Thursday 23 July) revealed that a total of £275,532.58 has been forfeited so far as part of an ongoing investigation linked to illegal waste site activity in Worcestershire.

Two men were arrested in the series of warrants carried out at locations across the West Mercia Police force area, led by specialist economic crime officers with support from neighbourhood policing teams back in January.

Specialist resources, including Task Force rapid entry officers and specially trained digital detection dogs, supported the operation targeting locations including a farm in Peopleton in Pershore and an address in Drakes Broughton, near Pershore.

Searches were made at further addresses by West Mercia Police in partnership with the Environment Agency, DVSA, Wychavon District Council and the National Vehicle Crime Intelligence Service (NaVCIS).

Those arrested were bailed and have been helping police with their enquiries as part of this continuing and complex investigation. Further suspects have also been interviewed.

Today, Detective Constable Steven Screen from West Mercia’s Economic Crime Unit (ECU), provided an update on the work carried out so far.

DC Screen said: “This investigation is still ongoing due to its complexity and the number of suspects involved.

“So far £275,532.58 has been forfeited by three of the businesses under investigation by our Economic Crime Unit (ECU) using Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) legislation. This money has been passed to the Home Office.

“More assets are still under review, and a money laundering investigation is still active.

“Additional crimes have also been identified since the warrants were executed in January and are being dealt with by colleagues in other police departments and our partner agencies.”
