Hello, and welcome back to another Monday Monday, our monument to day is MPK7904.

MPK7904 is a brick-built Type 22 pillbox, just southeast of the village of Mawcarse, adjacent to the B919 road. Pillboxes like these were built across the UK following the fall of the Low Countries in May 1940. This example would have been occupied by riflemen sentries, and was most likely built to defend the approach to the Mawcarse railway junction and station (MPK11675). This station, closed in 1964 by the Beeching cuts, would have been an important strategic location locally, and vulnerable to potential sabotage.

Though the station is closed, the pillbox remains, a small but important part of our recent history.

These archaeological excavations at 75 High Street, Perth - now Marks and Spencer - were photographed sometime between 1975 and 1977. At the time, they were some of the largest urban medieval excavations ever carried out in Scotland.

We're proud to be featured in SSE plc's Community Investment Review 2025/26.

Thanks to support from the Griffin and Calliacher Community Fund, PKHT's Lost Stones of Strath Tay project received £12,500 to help deliver our community rock art excavation in September 2025.

This was one of many projects supported through SSE's community investment programme, which awarded £24.9 million to communities last year.

Together, we're helping create lasting positive change and stronger, more resilient communities.

Heritage is what gives our towns, buildings and places life.

When we think about heritage, what’s the first thing that comes to your mind?

For most people it’ll be the usual; castles, brochs, archaeology and the like. The physical things that are noticeably really old and play a significant, tangible and visible role in our historic environment.

But what about the things we can’t see, or even necessarily explain? What about our traditions, the local stories passed down through generations, or the different languages and dialects we speak?

Heritage is so much more than the physical; it is also the intangible cultural heritage which gives our towns, buildings and places life.

For our Outreach Officer, Rory Bryce, heritage isn't just the things that we can see, but also the things that we feel, tell and experience.

These intangible heritages deserve protection too, but we need your help to identify and conserve them properly.

That's why we're asking you to take part in our public consultation for our Strategic Plan 2026-2031. Your opinion will shape our work for the next five years. We want to listen to what you have to say, and it's important that we work together for the heritage of Perth and Kinross.

Read Rory's recent blog post and submit your survey response through the link below.

Yesterday, the PKHT team took a trip to Loch Leven Castle for a well-earned staff day out, followed by a good feed at Loch Leven's Larder 🏰 🍴

It wasn't just a jolly - we also took time to reflect on the work of the Trust so far this year and done some teambuilding exercises. We did have a lot of fun exploring the castle though.

All in all it was a great day out. We're feeling recharged and ready for the rest of 2026!
