🩷 October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month - with figures revealing that an estimated one in seven women in the UK will develop breast cancer in their lifetime.

Detecting breast cancer early through screening can increase the chances of survival, and women are being urged to keep their NHS Breast Screening Appointment.

Those eligible for free NHS screening will receive a letter in the post inviting them to attend.

Phishing 🎣- don't take the bait!
Sadly, criminals target members of the public pretending to be the NHS. They send texts, emails, WhatsApp messages etc. with false links and information, scaring people into using them, thinking there is a problem, they've missed an appointment or something has gone wrong somewhere. We encourage anyone outside of the Trust who receives emails such as this to report to [email protected] so talk to your friends and relatives about this if you believe they need some advice to be vigilant.

We were delighted to welcome Paul Bristow, Mayor for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, to the site of our Community Diagnostic Centre this afternoon.

During his visit, we showcased the exciting progress being made on this fantastic new, state-of-the-art facility.

Our Deputy Chief Executive, Charlotte Williams, and Chairman, Professor Steve Barnett, proudly showed Paul around and shared how the centre will help transform access to diagnostic services, bringing real benefits to our patients and the communities we serve.

Baby Loss Awareness Week began in 2002 and has taken place every October since. This week is this year's annual event, of a collaboration between a number of bereavement charities and aims to support, solidarity and comfort to everyone whose lives have been touched by the impact of pregnancy and baby loss.

🎩Magicians, mermaids, and hospital charity mascots 🦁 were out in full force for this week’s Play in Healthcare Week – which concludes today.

A huge thanks to our wonderful play teams and colleagues at Peterborough City and Hinchingbrooke hospitals for bringing smiles to the faces of young patients through a series of fun activities and special guest visits – including Jessie the Cowgirl! 🤠

The theme of the week has been based on the Toy Story films to help ‘Celebrate how play is improving outcomes and experiences.’

Play in Healthcare week is a national, annual celebration of play in all healthcare settings for babies, children and young people. It aims to highlight and showcase the incredible work of Health Play Specialists and play staff.

Zoe Wilkinson, Play Service Co-ordinator, said: “We have had a fantastic week and big thank you to everyone who has supported. Coming into hospital as a baby, child or young person can be daunting, and the importance of play in hospital cannot be overstated.

"Play has the power to create happiness for children in healthcare settings and is also used to enable them to understand their treatment and procedures in a fun and age-appropriate way.”

🩷 National statistics suggest that 45 percent of UK women do not check their breasts regularly – and 11 per cent report they have never checked their breasts.

Encouragingly, there is a much bigger uptake in the number of women attending their first NHS mammogram, which has hit a 10 year high.
