This evening the Conservative Group held its AGM, where Cllr Wayne Fitzgerald was once again elected as the Conservative Group Leader to lead us through the coming year. Congratulations Wayne and thank you for your continued leadership and commitment.

It was also great to welcome our newly elected Conservative councillors to the group this evening. Fantastic to see the team continuing to grow and expand.

We would also like to give a very warm welcome to Cllr Kirsty Knight, who has joined the Conservative Group after previously sitting as an Independent councillor representing Orton Waterville. We’re looking forward to working together as a stronger team for residents across the city.

Thank you Peterborough 💙

Thank you Peterborough 💙

Wow what a night!

Firstly, thank you. Thank you to every single person who voted for us, displayed a poster, delivered leaflets, messaged support, stopped to speak to us on the doorstep, or simply believed in what we were trying to do. Campaigns are never won by one person, they are won by communities of people who care, and we could not have done this without you.

Against all the odds, and despite what many predicted in the polls, we have become the largest political group on the council. That is an incredible achievement and one every single supporter should take pride in.

We are so excited to welcome fantastic new councillors into the group.

Your hard work, resilience and dedication paid off, and we cannot wait to see what you achieve for your communities.

But last night also came with sadness. Scott Warren in Bretton and Marco Cereste in Hampton Vale fell just short this time, and we know how much that hurts after giving absolutely everything. They are two genuinely good people who care deeply about their communities, and those communities will undoubtedly be worse off without them representing them.

It’s been a long, tough and emotional campaign, but we stayed united, kept working hard, and last night that effort paid off.

So once again, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you, thank you, thank you. For your trust, your support, your kindness and your belief in us.

Now…we all need some sleep and some time to recover. 💙

Peterborough City Council elections Thursday 7 May 2026:

Vote Aleem Miran 🗳️ ✅

💫Out and about in East Ward today💫

Our candidate Aleem Miran has been out with the team today, speaking to residents, listening to concerns, and hearing loud and clear what people are thinking.

Now here’s the reality….East Ward already has three Labour councillors. THREE. And they’re the ones running the council. So you’d expect residents to feel represented, right?

But that’s not what we heard on the doorstep today.

Time and time again, people told us they feel like their voices just aren’t being heard. And one thing came up again and again, the attempt by those same Labour councillors to cancel local elections.

Residents haven’t forgotten that.

Because when elections are at risk, so is your voice. And people in East Ward are frustrated, they want to be listened to, not sidelined.

That’s exactly why Aleem is out there, having real conversations and standing up for residents. Someone who will speak up, not stay quiet. Someone who will put East Ward first.

🚎 BUS SUMMIT 🚌

As part of my independent review into bus franchising, I held a bus summit with operators to discover how we can improve services for passengers 😊

The relationship between the last Mayor and bus operators reached rock bottom - there was no relationship 😮

We have repaired this - and we will create a bus system across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough that works and is affordable 💙

🚨 A Coalition of Betrayal 🚨

The Conservative Group congratulates Cllr Quyyum on becoming the new council leader.

But residents should be concerned: less than 12 weeks ago, Labour, Peterborough First and the Lib Dems were at each other’s throats, voting down budgets, pushing no-confidence motions and risking turmoil at the council. Now, united only by their thirst for power, they’ve stitched together a shaky coalition that puts politics before people.

In doing so, they’ve stripped our Conservative Councillors of their chairing roles, positions we used responsibly to provide experience, stability and constructive support for the council. This is about power, not residents.

We proposed a fair, all-party administration (including Labour) to deliver stability for Peterborough, but this was rejected in favour of a deal made behind closed doors. The support the Conservative group gave the Labour administration in the vote of no confidence and in supporting the Council budget has long been forgotten.

👉 The Conservative Group will continue to hold this coalition to account and stand up for residents. In May, it has never been more important to make your voice heard at the ballot box.
