The latest statements from local Labour MPs about Keir Starmer feel like classic too-little-too-late politics.

One is calling for him to go, another is backing him to stay, but both have already supported his government through every major policy decision so far.

They voted with him, backed him, and defended the direction of travel while the same policies have been hitting working residents and local businesses hard.

Now, as the pressure builds, we’re suddenly meant to believe these are principled breaks with the leadership?

It’s hard to take seriously when the damage has already been done and consistently supported along the way.

People locally won’t forget who backed what when it mattered.

This evening the Conservative Group held its AGM, where Cllr Wayne Fitzgerald was once again elected as the Conservative Group Leader to lead us through the coming year. Congratulations Wayne and thank you for your continued leadership and commitment.

It was also great to welcome our newly elected Conservative councillors to the group this evening. Fantastic to see the team continuing to grow and expand.

We would also like to give a very warm welcome to Cllr Kirsty Knight, who has joined the Conservative Group after previously sitting as an Independent councillor representing Orton Waterville. We’re looking forward to working together as a stronger team for residents across the city.

Peterborough sent a clear message last week. Despite everything thrown at us, residents backed the Conservatives and we secured the largest vote share across the Peterborough constituency.

This wasn’t luck, it was built on hard work, determination, and a belief that local people deserve better.

As our Leader said, we are not going anywhere. We will keep standing up for Peterborough and for the residents who put their trust in us.

Wow what a night!

Firstly, thank you. Thank you to every single person who voted for us, displayed a poster, delivered leaflets, messaged support, stopped to speak to us on the doorstep, or simply believed in what we were trying to do. Campaigns are never won by one person, they are won by communities of people who care, and we could not have done this without you.

Against all the odds, and despite what many predicted in the polls, we have become the largest political group on the council. That is an incredible achievement and one every single supporter should take pride in.

We are so excited to welcome fantastic new councillors into the group.

Your hard work, resilience and dedication paid off, and we cannot wait to see what you achieve for your communities.

But last night also came with sadness. Scott Warren in Bretton and Marco Cereste in Hampton Vale fell just short this time, and we know how much that hurts after giving absolutely everything. They are two genuinely good people who care deeply about their communities, and those communities will undoubtedly be worse off without them representing them.

It’s been a long, tough and emotional campaign, but we stayed united, kept working hard, and last night that effort paid off.

So once again, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you, thank you, thank you. For your trust, your support, your kindness and your belief in us.

Now…we all need some sleep and some time to recover. 💙

Our candidate in North Ward, Javed Akhtar is in good spirits today and full of energy.

This election matters for the future of Peterborough. Don’t sit this one out, every vote counts.

Please get out and vote today, and remember to bring valid photo ID with you to the polling station.

If you want strong local leadership and don’t want to risk Labour staying in control at the Town Hall, vote Conservative today.

🗳️ Polls are now OPEN across Peterborough!

Today is your chance to have your say and help shape the future of our city. Every vote matters, so please make sure you get out and vote.

REMEMBER you will need valid photo ID to vote at your polling station.

And as you put your cross in the box today, remember this: Labour’s council administration, propped up by the Lib Dems and Peterborough First, wanted to cancel these elections and deny residents their say.

Peterborough Conservatives believe local people should always have the right to choose. That’s why we challenged this.

Don’t risk splitting the vote and letting Labour back in to run the council after what they have done.

This is what makes a great local councillor….

This is what makes a great local councillor….

A resident contacted me about their very old fence – it was in a terrible condition and their dog could easily escape 🐶

They had already contacted the Housing Association numerous times, but nothing had been done.

I went in person, raised it directly with them, and pushed for action.
Just ONE week later… a brand new, beautiful fence is now in place 👏

This is what real action looks like.
We are not just saying it — myself and Alex are here for our residents, every single day.
We listen. We act. We deliver.

We are the team with the exciting plans for Paston & Walton — and this is just the beginning.

You know things are bad for Labour when even Kevin Maguire is talking them down and predicting a hammering in the local elections. At that point, you know the writing’s on the wall.

And it’s not just journalists, we’re hearing the same thing on the doorstep too.

Starmer looks like he’s simply trying to limp through until after next week’s local elections. What happens after that is anyone’s guess.

But here’s the key point: a vote for anyone other than the Conservatives risks handing control straight back to Labour in Peterborough through another coalition.

And we all know what that means. Higher council tax, a declining city centre, more rough sleeping and anti-social behaviour, poor-quality road repairs, and a pilot asylum housing scheme being introduced that will see those who have illegally entered our country given new or refurbished houses here in our city, ahead of those who have been waiting years on the housing register.

Peterborough deserves better than that.

Don’t take the risk of handing it back to Labour.
