In its 115 years, Horden has been involved in many escapades. But by far the most bizarre was when it travelled from Horden Colliery to Shotton Colliery ... by road.

No we don’t mean on a lorry; Horden was driven there, one track panel at a time, down the middle of the road by all accounts.

Apparently, there are photos in existence of this unusual journey, but we’ve never seen them. Have you?

We’d love to be able to tell visitors more about this unusual part of Horden’s history and photographs would make such a difference.
