Garden waste

Our garden waste service will be suspended from Monday 23 December and restart on Monday 6 January 2025. If you have a real Christmas tree and you're using the service, we’ll collect it on your first collection in the new year. Trees over 6ft tall should be cut into smaller pieces that can be lifted by one person.

Clinical waste collections

As regular clinical waste collections are on Mondays and Tuesdays, there will be no change to these collections over the Christmas and New Year period.

STEEP PARISH COUNCIL MEETING
4 NOV 2023, 7.30pm
County Councillor’s Report
Cllr Russell Oppenheimer was delighted to report that HCC have decided to keep all
Hampshire’s HWRC – i.e. tips – open and that existing school crossing patrols will be
maintained. To save money street lights on residential streets will now be switched off
between midnight and 5am, and dimmed at other times.
District Councillor’s Report
Cllr Nick Drew informed us that EHDC have permanently removed their bottle banks, as
these were being misused by businesses and for non-bottle waste. They are however
doubling the number of bottle recycling collections to once a fortnight. They need to be in
sturdy plastic boxes not weighing more than 38l: the bin men have the right to refuse to
empty boxes that are too full or too heavy. You can buy the EHDC ones here:

Please check here what can and cant go in your bins: https://www.easthants.gov.uk/bincollections/what-can-and-cant-go-your-bins
Planning and Compliance
Nick noted that enforcement officers are successfully engaging with various local
compliance issues, but we are still awaiting a response to the points Cllr Driver raised at the
EHDC full council meeting on 26 September.
War Memorial
The new silhouette soldier has arrived and will be in place in time for the Remembrance
Service on 11 November.
Defibrillator
The PC have bought seven defibrillators. One has been installed in Steep Marsh, the others
are waiting to go in. Listed building consent is needed for the defibrillator which is to go on
the toilets at The Harrow as they are in the curtiledge of a Grade II listed building.
Church Road Public Open Space
A motion will be put forward at December meeting to agree in principle that the Parish
Council should take on the management of the POS at Church Rd. Cllr Alison Driver will take
forward conversations with developer and SDNPA planning officer.
Footpaths and the Lengthsman
Cllr Charlotte Duthie reported that all footpaths are in good order and the lengthsman has
been clearing around road signs and grit bins around the parish.
Please note this is an informal report of the PC meeting. The full minutes will be available on
the Steep Parish Council website once approved at the next meeting. Dates, times, agendas
and minutes are all available https://www.steep-pc.gov.uk/your-council/agendas-andminutes.
All meetings are held in public in the Village Hall on the first Monday of every month. We
encourage residents to attend
