Join the Great Bucks Spring Clean!
Residents and communities across Buckinghamshire are once again taking part in the Great British Spring Clean, this year running from 21 March to 6 April – and there’s still time to join in.
Organised by Keep Britain Tidy, this national annual initiative encourages residents, community groups and businesses to volunteer to collect and safely dispose of litter from local streets, parks and open spaces, in support of the planned work already carried out by councils. It’s the biggest mass action environmental campaign of its kind – and in Buckinghamshire 121 events will be happening, a 77% increase on last year.
Groups wanting to arrange a local litter pick can request (free of charge) equipment including litter pickers, rubbish bags, bag hoops, gloves and hi-vis vests to help carry out their event in safety. The council will also pick up the collected litter and dispose of it.
Simon Harris organises the initiative for Buckinghamshire Council and recently won an award for his work. Simon was recognised by the Keep Britain Tidy organisation in January where he won an award for being an Outstanding Organiser.
Simon said: “Joining in with the Great British Spring Clean is a fantastic way for people to give something back to their community and take direct action to help improve their local area. It can also be great fun with a real sense of community spirit enjoyed by everyone taking part. Just filling one litter bag can make such a big difference. It’s not too late to organise your own event so please think about getting involved.”

You can also nominate a Local Litter Hero for the Great British Spring Clean Awards – to officially recognise and reward volunteers and partners taking part in the 2025 campaign (entries before 31 May).
Buckinghamshire Council is also sending a hard-hitting message to anyone tempted to litter in the county: For Bucks Sake – don’t do it. Anyone caught deliberately littering in Buckinghamshire will face a Fixed Penalty Notice for £500 under a recently introduced policy.
Less than 1% of Buckinghamshire’s waste goes to landfill. It is either recycled or goes to the council’s Energy From Waste plant at Greatmoor and helps to power homes across the county.
