It was an absolute pleasure to welcome Marine Academy Primary school to the Council House and Mayorโ€™s Office today.

The children were a real credit to their school, teachers, and parents, showing fantastic confidence, excellent manners, and a genuine interest in the history of Plymouth and how the Council works.
Their questions were thoughtful, engaging, and incredibly impressive.
More so their answers to my questions, when I asked one young man why he wanted to be his school Parliamentary representative he simply stated "I want to care for people". โค๏ธ๐Ÿ‘ 100% loved hearing this.

I was especially delighted to see so many young people willing to stand up and speak with confidence during their visit to the Council Chambers โ€” the future of Plymouth is certainly bright with young ambassadors like these.

Thank you to all the staff and organisers for making the visit possible, and well done once again to every pupil who attended.
To the parents, your kids did you very proud ! ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ›๏ธโœจ

๐ŸŒŸ It was an absolute pleasure to attend the Southway Funday and Southway Community Hub and Cafe Community Fun Day yesterday afternoon.

Despite the rain, wind, and all the setbacks the weather tried to throw at them, the team still managed to put on a truly fantastic community event that brought so many people together.

A special mention must go to Karen and Jenny, whose leadership, determination, and hard work helped make the day such a great success, alongwith all the team and volunteers. .โœจ๏ธ

It was wonderful to meet Ian Sims and Kylie Eccles from the Southwest Garrison ๐Ÿฆ–, meet the very impressive REACH Wrestling team ๐Ÿคผโ€โ™‚๏ธ, the fantastic Glee Club๐ŸŽถ, and members of the Southway Community Watch ๐Ÿ‘€ Hospital Radio Plymouth and many more brilliant stalls.
The variety of groups and community spirit on display showed exactly what makes Southway such a special place.

Southway has truly set the standard for great community events, and everyone involved should be incredibly proud. The fantastic response from the public was a real testament to the hard work, dedication, and determination shown by all those involved in continuing the event despite the difficult weather conditions.

I am extremely grateful for the invitation and want to say a huge thank you and well done to everyone who put so much effort into providing such an amazing day for the community.

Southway the pride and spirit shown throughout the day was clear for all to see.
WELL DONE ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

"We cannot possibly hope to repay that debt, but we can and we must pledge never to forget."

Accompanied by Lord Mayor's Cadet, I had the honor and pleasure to lay a wreath yesterday morning for the D-Day Commemoration service, held by the Plymouth Federation Service in remembrance of the Allied and American forces who took part in the Normandy landings of 1944.

Very grateful to be accompanied by the Torpoint Town Mayor and the Mayor of Saltash equally paying their respects..

I was delighted to have the opportunity to give a speech and show my appreciation at the University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust Volunteer Celebration.

I was genuinely amazed by the incredible age range of volunteers in attendance โ€“ from young teenagers beginning their volunteering journey to, shall we say, some more experienced members who were regaling us with stories of nearly being born in air raid shelters during the Blitz!

What really stood out was the remarkable commitment shown by everyone in the room. Table after table was filled with volunteers who had dedicated 10, 20, and in some cases over 30 years of service. The collective contribution represented was simply incredible and a testament to the generosity, kindness and community spirit that makes so special.

A huge thank you goes to Claire Jukes for her fantastic hosting of the event, and to the fabulous younger generation of superstars who not only enjoyed hearing me use the word "mogging" but, more importantly, kindly allowed a man of my age to get away with using modern-day slang! ๐ŸคŸ๐Ÿ˜€

My thanks also go to Chief Executive Neil MacDonald for leading such an outstanding department and for supporting a volunteer programme that makes such a meaningful difference to patients, families and staff every single day.
Alongwith James Brent for all the joint working now and previous as Chair of Universitys hospital.
And of course the incredible Hospital Radio Plymouth team.
To every volunteer, thank you.
Your time, dedication and compassion are truly appreciated, and Plymouth is fortunate to have you. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

I would like to wish everyone a very happy National Fish and Chips Day!

Plymouth is blessed to have some of the finest fish and chip shops anywhere in the world. As a historic maritime city with a proud fishing heritage, we know a thing or two about quality seafood and great local food. ๐ŸŸ๐ŸŸ

Today is a fantastic opportunity to support your local fish and chip shop, many of which are independent family-run businesses that work hard all year round to serve our communities.
Whether you enjoy yours by the waterfront, on the Barbican, or from your favourite neighbourhood chippy, why not treat yourself today and celebrate one of Britain's most iconic meals?

Let's show our support for Plymouth's fantastic fish and chip shops and help keep this great tradition thriving.

Visit to the Lord Mayor's Parlourโœจ๏ธ

It was a real pleasure to welcome the Plympton U3A Local History Group to Plymouth City Council house and to the Lord Mayor's Parlour today.

My sincere thanks go to Cllr Sally Nicholson and Valerie Moody for arranging the visit and bringing together such an enthusiastic group with a shared passion for local history.

It was wonderful to meet members of the group and spend time discussing 's rich heritage, traditions and valued items like the Astor diamonds ๐Ÿ’Ž presented with passion by our extremely knowledgeable Mace Bearer Kevin.

It was a privilege to host the group, and I hope everyone enjoyed their visit to the Council House and gained a greater appreciation of the history and traditions that make Plymouth such a special city.

As the Lord Mayor of Plymouth, I am extremely pleased to offer my warmest congratulations to Lesley-Ann Simpson on receiving her BEM (British Empire Medal) at her investiture ceremony, in recognition of her outstanding work and dedication to the Chestnut Appeal and the people of Plymouth.โœจ๏ธ

The Chestnut Appeal carries out vital work across our city and wider region, supporting men affected by prostate cancer and raising awareness of the importance of early detection. Prostate cancer remains one of the most common cancers affecting men, and I would encourage all men to familiarise themselves with the symptoms, understand their risk factors, and seek screening and medical advice when appropriate. Early diagnosis can save lives!

It was a particular honour to listen to the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Devon, Major General Bill O'Leary, speak first-hand about his experiences and to witness him re-present the British Empire Medal to Lesley-Ann. It was a fitting tribute to someone who has given so much of her time and energy to supporting others.

I am especially proud that the Chestnut Appeal has been chosen as my charity for the year. It is a truly fantastic charity, making a real difference to the lives of countless men and their families, and I look forward to supporting its important work throughout my Mayoral year.

Congratulations once again, Lesley-Ann, on this well-deserved recognition. ๐Ÿ‘
