Water Rescue training last night saw us take a short trip across the City to make the most of some of the incredible public open water facilities we have in Plymouth.

We used the seawater pool at Firestone bay to practice wading techniques and casualty recovery techniques.

As the weather (slowly) warms up it’s a great time for us to share some tips of how to stay safe in and around the water:

Earlier this week we were privileged to welcome the Beavers from the 2nd Plymstock Scout Group to station to help them in achieving their fire safety badges.

We discussed home fire safety with them before heading down to the appliance bay and going through all of the equipment we carry and how we use it to help people.

Thanks for coming down Beavers, we had a blast and hope you did too. And congratulations on achieving your fire safety badges!

After a challenging job this evening our crew’s on station debrief was made that much more enjoyable because of the awesome chips and curry sauce we were given by The Plymstock Fish & Chips. HUGE thanks to the team for their support, Plymstock is such a great community that we are so proud to be a part of and serve ❤️ 🍟 😋

Yesterday evening, we joined our friends and colleagues from Plympton Fire Station and Crownhill Fire Station at the Service Training Centre. We were hosted by the Assistant Chief Fire Officer and our Area Manager to receive commendations for the crews’ actions at an incident late last year.

The five crew members from Plymstock, who attended the incident, all received individual commendations as well as the station getting an overall commendation.

Part of the commendation reads:

“You were mobilised to an incident where upon arrival you found a 4-storey block of flats engulfed in flames.

Using your professionalism, teamwork and bravery, you collectively completed 28 ladder rescues and led three individuals to safety via a ground floor window”

We are immensely proud of the five crew members who were commended for their actions at the incident. They’re a credit to Station 51 and the wider fire service.

Not being a crew that likes to rest on its laurels, however, we used the opportunity of being at the Service Training Centre to run ladder drills alongside the crew from Plympton.

Happy New Year from all of us at Station 51
🥳 🎆

As we look ahead to 2026, it’s also important to reflect on what’s been a very busy year for us. We’ve hosted two incredible open events including our recent Christmas Open Day, attended lots of school fairs and other community events all over Plymstock and beyond, all while maintaining our operational availability and readiness with regular training and exercises. Not forgetting of course that in the past year the crew have also attended:

43 Alarm Activations 🚨
40 Fires 🔥
3 RTCs 🚗
1 Large Animal Rescue 🐎
2 Releases of Persons Trapped 🧍
1 Gas Incident 🧪
13 Gain Entries for the Ambulance Service 🚑
2 Floodings 💧
1 Rescue from Height 🏔️
36 Standby Moves to Other Stations 🚒

WOW Plymstock! 🎄 🚒

Thank you so much to everyone who came to see us yesterday for our Festive Open Day and for your generosity in support of the Fire Fighters Charity

We were blown away by how many of you came to see us! The crew had such a great time speaking to you all and showing you around and we hope you all had a great time too.

Santa finally made it back from operational duties with the crew at about 1900 and took a bit of time to put his feet up before heading back to the North Pole.

There are so many thank you’s for us to make that we will do them all in a separate post once we have our fundraising total for the Firefighters Charity.

Due to unforeseen reindeer related operational commitments, Father Christmas will only be at the open day until 2pm tomorrow, so if you would like a chance to see him please get there in plenty of time before that.

There will still be coffe and cake to buy, other bits to do and fire engines to see after 2pm but no Santa!

We can’t wait to see you all tomorrow 🎅 🚒
