One of our favourite things to do is to announce and congratulate the winners of our competitions.

Picking the winners was not easy. The entries we received were creative and varied from ‘pastels to photos’ and ‘crayon to paint’ ands depicted stormy weather and heatwaves!

We’ll post images of the winning entries over the next week.

This 40-ish minute recording will take you through all 5 training sessions, and equip you with the knowledge you need to help yourself and your community before, during and after a flood.

Join us for free events with partners & colleagues for Our Land Flows... from Peat to Pipe at Market Hall, Plymouth:

Whether you're interested in nature, local history, creativity or sustainability, there's something for everyone to enjoy:

📆 17th August: from 12 noon-3pm, free hands-on workshops exploring water, peatlands, wildlife and local heritage through creative activities, drawing, magnifiers, maps and experiments.

📆 19th August: 11am – 1pm There will be a special discussion event featuring archaeologists, Dartmoor farmers, peatland managers and water specialists sharing insights into water management on Dartmoor , and in Plymouth and our relationship with the natural world.
Plus a free hands on workshop 2-3pm.

📆 22nd August: 11am – 2pm Free drop-in activities and information sharing for all ages, with interactive experiences, creative challenges and opportunities to learn more about the water landscapes that support Plymouth.

These activities explore the fascinating journey of water from Dartmoor's peatlands to the taps in our homes, while uncovering the heritage of Dartmoor’s historic leats and water systems that follow the contours and gently flow down from the peatlands to the city.

We've seen lots of solar eclipse glasses being sought after and advertised for sale on social media 🕶️

Before using any eclipse glasses, check they're genuine - ISO 12312-2:2015 Compliant & CE marked.

❌ If you're unsure whether they're certified, don't use them and never use glasses that are scratched, torn or damaged.

⚠️ Ordinary sunglasses are NOT safe for viewing a solar eclipse, even if they are very dark.

If you're unable to get hold of eclipse glasses by Wednesday, safe indirect viewing methods include:
✅ Making a simple pinhole viewer at home
✅ Viewing the Sun's image through a colander on a piece of paper

Remember, never look directly at the Sun during the eclipse🌘
