You budget your money… but do you budget your food?
September has a habit of arriving with a rather long shopping list — school uniforms, shoes, packed lunches, clubs, bills… and apparently children still expect feeding every single day.
A little food planning can take some of the pressure off:
LOOK — Check the fridge, freezer and cupboards before you shop. That forgotten packet at the back might save you a few quid.
PLAN — Build a couple of meals around what needs using first.
STRETCH — Cook an extra portion and tomorrow’s lunch is already sorted. Future you will be quietly impressed.
FREEZE — Bread, leftovers, meat and plenty more can be frozen rather than forgotten.
It doesn't need spreadsheets, matching storage tubs or a Sunday afternoon devoted to meal prep.
Just a little planning can mean less waste, more meals and a food budget that stretches further.
And if September is putting extra pressure on your household budget, remember Devon & Cornwall Food Action is here too.
