Plymouth City Council with Capital&Centric have confirmed that the iconic Civic Centre will disappear from the end of September behind a giant tower of scaffolding as the most significant phase of its regeneration gets underway.

It will take several months (until Christmas) for the scaffolding and netting to envelop the building. Once it’s up, the most critical parts of the scheme will take place, including removing external cladding to enable external structural surveys, removing all remaining asbestos and internal and external demolition works, including the 1970s extension.

We’ve got a report to Cabinet which meets on 24 August and recommends (in a nutshell):
• Appointing a contractor for this first phase
• Entering a lease agreement with City College Plymouth
• Including the Civic Pond in the programme

The latest footfall figures for the City Centre and Footfall is still going strong, which is good news for our Plymouth City Centre businesses. 📈

Armada Way is busy every day. Year to date footfall is up +15.7% compared with a UK high street average of +0.1%.

Last week city centre footfall was up +19.5%, compared with the same week last year. The UK high street average was a rise of just +1.9%
