As part of our Open Access sessions at Honicknowle Youth & Community Centre, we open up the Vibe Room for young people aged 11-19 to come and explore their musical talent and try something new.

Making music in ways such as playing an instrument, singing, writing songs or producing beats provides significant mental, emotional and social benefits for young people.

๐Ÿ CONFIDENCE IN THE KITCHEN ๐Ÿ

Cooking activities in our sessions at Honicknowle Youth & Community Centre are about so much more than whatโ€™s on the plate! They provide young people with a fun, supportive space to develop practical kitchen skills, build confidence, explore nutrition and discover new foods and flavours.

With the support of our youth workers, young people can learn by doing, get creative, work together and try new things in a relaxed environment. Recently, we have made tomato and mascarpone pasta, cinnamon swirls, chocolate chip cookies, fruit smoothies and snickerdoodles! ๐Ÿ‰

These sessions help young people develop independence, teamwork and life skills that they can take beyond the kitchen ๐Ÿฝ

โญ YOUNG CARERS AT THE SCRUTINY PANEL โญ

Last week two of our young carers had the opportunity to attend the Children, Young People and Families scrutiny panel at the Council House. This panel meeting is made up of multiple councillors and senior commissioning officers and our young carers had the opportunity to ask some compelling questions about the Young Carers services across the city.

Their questions were thought-provoking, purposeful and challenging and have resulted in a number of excellent recommendations, in which they will be involved with as time goes on. This was an excellent opportunity to use their voices on behalf of the hundreds of seen and unseen young carers across Plymouth.

Well done Clover and Jess! โœจ

๐ŸŒŽ WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY 2026๐ŸŒŽ

Last week we celebrated in our sessions at Honicknowle Youth & Community Centre. The theme for 2026 is 'Lived experiences heard: real voices, real change'.

Talking about mental health can feel hard. Many of us worry about saying the wrong thing, and that can stop conversations before they begin. Our sessions provide the opportunity for young people to talk about how they're feeling to youth workers and build a supportive network of peers while engaging in different activities ๐Ÿ’œ

PLYMOUTH YOUNG CARERS

Since sharing this story for Young Carers Action Day back in March, this amazing Young Carer has gone on to exceed the A level grades required for her chosen university course and has now settled into university life outside of Plymouth.

Her journey since being with us from the age of 11 has been one of determination, resilience, and hard work. Balancing her caring responsibilities with her education was never easy, but she never stopped believing in herself. Today, she is proving that with the right support and strong dedication, great things are possible.

We are incredibly proud of everything she has achieved and all that is still to come. The future is bright, and the world truly is her oyster!!
