Conservative success. Almost 500 people signed Cllr Chris Wood - Eggbuckland Ward’s petition to return the 27 and 28 bus stops to Royal Parade after they were moved to Mayflower Street without consultation.
There has been a U-turn on Plymouth bus services after users vented their fury when stops were moved from Royal Parade during its £7.5m upgrade 📣
Hundreds of people were unhappy when some services were shunted to Mayflower Street during the revamp and didn’t return when work completed in March.
A petition calling for the 8 and 9 services, to the city centre from Efford and Laira, to be moved back to stops at Royal Parade said the move had “disrupted the daily routines of many residents” and gathered 673 signatures.
And 485 people signed another petition, also on the Change.org platform, calling for the number 27 and 28 services - connecting to Lower Compton, Eggbuckland, Mainstone - to return to Royal Parade.
The petition said Mayflower Street “has been deemed inappropriate by many bus users who note that it is less accessible.”
But now, Plymouth City Council has declared “we’ve listened” and said bus services that currently terminate at Mayflower Street will return to Royal Parade when the new Autumn timetable begins.
It means eight services that were moved to Mayflower Street on “a temporary basis” when work on the Royal Parade improvement scheme took place will be coming back to Royal Parade.
So, the 8 and 9, and 27 and 28 services will return to Royal Parade, as will the number 30 and 31 buses, serving Peverell and Hartley Vale, and the 35 and 35A services to Ham and Beacon Park.
The move – which will come into effect at the end of August – is being made in response to passenger complaints about the Mayflower Street stops being too far to walk from key destinations such as the Theatre Royal Plymouth, the council said.
