We recently had a Student Police Officer, complete their placement with us - and here is what they to say about their time at Colebrook:

"Doing my police community placement with Colebrook southwest was a truly amazing experience. The work that Colebrook do within the mental health community is vital for their client's independence and personal growth. The staff are committed to making a positive impact on the people they work with, it was amazing to witness the way they support with understanding and empathy. The way the staff engaged with the clients had such an impact on myself and I hope to take that with me in my role as a police officer. The highlight of my placement was working with the clients that Colebrook support, they inspired me in the way they are going about trying to achieve their personal goals. THANK YOU COLEBROOK FOR HAVING ME ITS AN EXPERIENCE I WILL NEVER FORGET!"

Thank you for the lovely feedback Keir, it was great having you on placement with us! 😊

For the last 6/7 months we have had Monty on placement with us as part of his Stage 2 Social Work Degree - and this is what he had to say about his time at Colebrook πŸ™‚

''I've enjoyed it. At first, I was anxious, quiet etc as I was worried I would do the wrong thing or something bad would happen but overtime I've grown (mainly due to lone working). I'm still anxious but at least I pushed myself for the benefit of the clients as well as myself. It's given me a really good insight of the multiple ways we can support vulnerable people. I've enjoyed meeting all the staff and clients, spending time with everyone and getting to know them. For staff, it's seeing how they are all work and deal with difficult situations yet still being true to themselves. For clients, it's learning about their past and experiences, how they cope etc. I wish everyone in Colebrook all the best, staff and clients. I've learnt how important the 'to do with and not for' aspect of Colebrook is. It allows these individuals to get the support they need but also contributes to their own growth so they don't have to rely on getting the support they would normally receive and instead live their lives the way they want to while still being happy and healthy. They are capable, even if they don't see it yet."

Over the last 6/7 months we have had Alicia on placement with us as part of her Stage 2 Social Work degree - here is what she said about her placement at Colebrook 😊
"I have found my placement a struggle at times with learning how to approach people with different needs and learning to put my anxiety in the back of my mind. However, it has been very educational to widening my knowledge on mental health and learning difficulties and what adults in this service go through on a day-to-day basis. I have enjoyed getting to know the clients and staff and have built very strong professional relationships with some of the staff and clients. This placement has helped with my anxiety around meeting new people and has helped me gain confidence that the way I work helps service users to be independent. I have enjoyed doing my placement at Colebrook and felt comfortable enough that if I faced any issues, I had no worries about going to my line manager (Paige Sim) or any other members of staff. I enjoy the day-to-day aspect of helping the clients cook, go shopping, and build a good relationship with them and staff I work with. It will be sad to say my goodbyes to the staff and clients I have connected with but I wish them all nothing but the best."
