Today, on Firefightersโ€™ Memorial Day, we honour our firefighting family - past and present - and colleagues around the world for their courage, dedication and service.

We also remember those who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

The time has come! This Saturday weโ€™ll be holding our Charity Car Wash and weโ€™d love your support.

Bring your car along, get it cleaned by the firefighters, and help us raise money for Fire Fighters Charity. Every donation goes towards supporting firefighters and their families when they need it most.

Weโ€™re also pleased to have firefighters joining us from Greenbank Fire Station, Crownhill Fire Station, and Camels Head Fire Station, making it a great team effort across the stations.

Come along, say hello, and support a great cause! ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Weโ€™d like to wish Katie Simon all the very best in her new adventure as she leaves her role as a firefighter at Plympton Fire Station.

Katie has proudly served for 7 years, always going above and beyond, especially when it came to supporting community engagement activities. Her dedication, positivity, and commitment will be truly missed at the station.

Thank you for everything, Katie. We wish you every success in the next chapter! ๐Ÿ‘

Age is another factor we look at when understanding fatal fire risks in the home ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿš’ ๐Ÿ”ฅ

As we grow older - particularly from around 65 and over - our needs can change, and for some people this may include finding it a little harder to move quickly or respond in an emergency.

This doesnโ€™t mean a fire is more likely to happen, but it does highlight the importance of taking a few extra precautions to stay safe at home.

You can learn more about this risk, along with the other top three that we see during our investigations - smoking, mobility and emollient creams - in the link in the comments below ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿฟ

Smoking indoors is one of the four major risk factors we identify when investigating fatal fires. Falling asleep while smoking or leaving a lit cigarette unattended can increase the risk of flammable items catching alight ๐Ÿšฌ

If you or someone you know smokes indoors, please be aware of the increased danger. Smoking outside is a simple step that can make a big difference.

Weโ€™ve launched our SAME4 campaign to raise awareness of the four key factors linked to fatal fires across Devon and Somerset: Smoking, Age (65+), Mobility, and Emollient creams (when combined with naked flames).

You can find out more about these risks via the link in the comments. Stay safe and please help to spread the word ๐Ÿ”ฅ
