🚒 We’re Recruiting On-Call Firefighters 🚒

We’re looking for committed, community-minded individuals to join our On-Call Firefighter team. On-call firefighters respond to emergencies using an alerter they carry and when it sounds, they drop what they’re doing and head to the station to help protect lives, property, and the community.

Congratulations to FF Jackson and WM Baxter who received awards at our drill night last night.

FF Jackson received his Silver Axe award which he was awarded during his initial training for being the top performing recruit.

WM Baxter received a recognition from all at Pocklington fire station for his hard work, support and dedication as Watch Manager, seeing significant improvements on station in recent years.

Well done both 👏🏼

🍳 Easter Weekend Safety Reminder
Did you know that over 50% of house fires start in the kitchen? 🔥🏠

Many are completely preventable, especially during busy holiday weekends.
Here are some simple cooking safety tips to help keep you and your family safe:

🔔 Test your smoke alarms – make sure they beep
🧽 Keep your cooking area clean and clutter free
🚫Keep tea towels, clothing and electrical cords away from the hob
👀 Never leave pans unattended
⚡ Switch off your oven, hob or air fryer after cooking
😴🍺 Feeling tired or had an alcoholic drink? Choose a takeaway or cold snack instead

After the success of last year’s event, we’re excited to do it all again! 🚒

Pocklington Fire Station is pleased to invite the community to our Open Day on 29th August 2026, 11am–4pm. Be sure to 📅

More information will be shared in the lead-up to the day. Please help us spread the word far and wide so we can welcome as many members of our community as possible.

We’ll also be collecting donations in support of The Firefighters Charity, and we’re hoping to beat last year’s fantastic total 🤞🏼

Yesterday we had the pleasure of visiting Melbourne Primary School, where we spoke with pupils about the equipment we carry, what it’s like to be a firefighter, and how to prevent fires and stay safe if one occurs.

Home Fire Safety Advice 🏡
Make sure you have working smoke alarms, with enough installed to cover your entire home 🔔

Get into the habit of closing all doors before bedtime to help slow the spread of smoke and fire 🚪

Turn off and unplug electrical items when they’re not in use ⚡️

Never leave cooking unattended 🍳

Register all white goods with their manufacturer so you can be contacted about safety recalls

If you smoke, always do so outside and dispose of ci******es safely 🚬🚭

**Warning - Realistic training pictures**

Yesterday, ten firefighters from Pocklington participated in two highly realistic joint mass-casualty training exercises alongside the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART). 🚒🚑

The first scenario involved a road traffic collision between a car and a bus carrying multiple casualties, which subsequently caught fire.

The second exercise simulated a fire at a children’s home, with 14 casualties initially unaccounted for.

The aim of the training was to develop skills in managing mass-casualty incidents while working alongside the HART team, using the 10-second triage method, and to practise breathing apparatus procedures, casualty extrication, and trauma care.

🚒 Think Before You Park 🚒

When vehicles are parked on both sides of a street, fire engines and other emergency vehicles often cannot get through. Every second counts in an emergency - blocked access could mean the difference between life and death.

✅ Park responsibly:
• Leave enough space for large vehicles to pass
• Observe parking signage and road markings
• Avoid double parking or mounting pavements
• Check before leaving your vehicle

Your actions could make all the difference.
