Temporary Road Closure for Millington Lane, Kilnwick Percy from Monday 22nd June 2026.

Please find below information from East Riding of Yorkshire Council detailing a temporary road closure for Millington Lane, Kilnwick Percy:

Notice is hereby given that The East Riding of Yorkshire Council intends not less than seven days from the date of this notice (Saturday 20th June 2026) to make an Order, the effect of which will be to prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along part of Millington Lane, Kilnwick Percy north along Martin Lane Heading east along Swineridge Lane on to Wodgate continue on to Millington Pastures along Pasture Lane and on to Cobdale along Cobdale Lane the On to Roman Road leading on to Butt Lane onto West Beck Hill along Inrea Hill and Baggaby Hill along the B1246 Kinwick Percy Hill on to Millington Lane commencing 22nd June 2026 @ 08:00 hours until 24th June 2026 @ 18:00 hours due to Road width too narrow unable to maintain minimum widths for part of Millington Lane, Kilnwick Percy.

The road closure is necessary to enable the works to be carried out in a manner consistent with ensuring the safety of the public. The Order is valid for 18 months, but it is anticipated that the works will be completed within 3 days.

The alternative route for traffic affected by the road closure will be via:
North along Martin Lane Heading east along Swineridge Lane on to Woodgate continue on to Millington Pastures along Pasture Lane and on to Cobdale along Cobdale Lane then on to Roman Road leading on to Butt Lane onto West Beck Hill along Inrea Hill and Baggaby Hill along the B1246 Kinwick Percy Hill on to Millington Lane, Nunburnholme CP, Wolds Weighton Ward. The diversion route will be signed at the time of closure.

The road will be closed to all through traffic but access will be maintained for residents, emergency vehicles and pedestrians.

Temporary Prohibition of Through Traffic Information

Please find below information regarding a TTRO order for The Hanging Grimston in Kirby Underdale. All information regarding the order are on Pocklington Town Council's website:

'Notice is hereby given that The East Riding of Yorkshire Council intends not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make an Order, the effect of which will be to prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along Part of Road To Hanging Grimston, Kirby Underdale heading north bound along Gatehowe Road to its junction with Roman Road heading east to the junction of uncleby Hill proceeding onto Painsthorpe Lane to install ducting and chambers for the new fibre network.

The road closure is necessary to enable the works to be carried out in a manner consistent with ensuring the safety of the public. The Order is valid for 18 months, but it is anticipated that the works will be completed within 4 days.

The alternative route for traffic affected by the road closure will be via: Howe Lane, Uncleby Hill, Roman Road, Gatehowe Road, Thixendale CP, Kirby Underdale CP, Wolds Weighton Ward. The diversion route will be signed at the time of closure. The road will be closed to all through traffic but access will be maintained for residents, emergency vehicles and pedestrians.

Pocklington Play Areas Update

Pocklington Town Council are happy to report to the people of Pocklington that after delayed works, the new play equipment for Broadmanor Play Area have commenced this morning. This does unfortunately mean that the play area will be closed until the works have been completed. The works will last three to four week, and will hopefully be reopened in time for the May half-term.

We are also happy to inform the public that the new accessible roundabout for Victoria Road play area will be installed starting Monday 11th May 2026. This will be installed before the May half-term as well. While the works commence the play area will still be functional but we do ask for users to be careful of machinery on site. The zipwire for Victoria Park will also be re-installed before the May bank holiday.

Please find below information concerning the next stage in the planned maintenance works on The Mile, Pocklington:

Carriageway Maintenance Works –The Mile, Pocklington

I am writing to inform you that as part of East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s £18 million highway maintenance programme, carriageway resurfacing works will be carried out on The Mile, Pocklington between Chapmangate and Swineridge lane, Millington. The works will consist of edge strengthening and widening works, drainage improvement scheme prior to deep patching of the carriageway at various points along its length.

A programme of works has been developed in conjunction with our contractors Britcon (UK) Ltd, which will be undertaken during the daytime (Mon – Fri) from 8am – 5pm. To ensure the safety of the public and workforce, a 24-hour road closure will be in place throughout the works.

Every effort will be made to maintain access for residents and businesses within the works area. However, there may be periods when access is restricted while surfacing is taking place. Access for residents, emergency services, postal deliveries and refuse collection will be maintained at all times.

Access will be permitted within the works areas to residents, business owners, and emergency services; however the width of the carriageway will be reduced to single lane operation at certain elements, and we ask that carriageway users be considerate when passing by the works and maintaining the traffic flow where possible. The works will be undertaken as follows:

Phase 2 – Meltonby Road to Swineridge Lane, Millington date commences Wednesday 6th May 2026 and will last approximately 12 weeks weather permitting.

Phase 3 – The Mile roundabout to Chapmangate commences Tuesday 21st July 2026 and will last approximately 2 -
3 weeks weather permitting.

Construction Works are scheduled to begin on Wednesday 6th May 2026 on Phase 2.

During the construction of the works there will be a contractor and ERYC site representative on site. A suite of drawings including diversion drawings are available for residents to view with Pocklington Town Council and in the Local East Riding Library.

Wed 20th May 2026 @ 19:00 Annual Meeting of PTC

What is it and why does it matter?

In May each year, Pocklington Town Council holds its Annual Meeting — an important statutory meeting required under the Local Government Act 1972. This is not a public forum meeting, but a formal council meeting where key decisions are made to set up the year ahead.

So what happens?
🔹 The Town Mayor (Chairman) is elected.
🔹 The Deputy Mayor (Vice-Chairman) is appointed.
🔹 Council committees are formed (such as Personnel, Planning and Finance).
🔹 Councillors are appointed to committees and outside bodies.
🔹 The council’s governance and procedures are reviewed and confirmed.

In simple terms, this meeting sets the structure, leadership and direction of the Council for the coming year. The decisions made here are important — they shape how effectively the Council can operate, respond to challenges, and serve the community.

It is also the point where the Council ensures that, although councillors are elected rather than appointed for specific skill sets, the Council is structured in a way that makes the best use of their experience and capacity, with robust committees and clear responsibilities in place to deal with the challenges of the year ahead.

Victoria Road Play Area News.

Maintenance is currently being carried out on the zip line. This will mean the zip line will be out of action this week.

The Town Council has agreed at its last meeting to install an accessible roundabout. The contractor has said this will be installed in 6 to 8 weeks so in time for summer.
