We have now completed this year's goat grazing project in partnership with Rumination Ltd and funded by NPT Local Places for Nature grant funds. The project has demonstrated the use of goats in the management of Japanese knotweed as an alternative to the use of chemicals. We will be applying for funding to continue this project for two more years and we will be writing a report to monitor the impact.
We are delighted with how much support we have received from our beautiful community, you have been amazing! People have been so interested in looking for alternatives to chemicals and have enjoyed spending time with the goats. Thank you everyone 💚.

We are so lucky to be supported by NPT Biodiversity team and Local Places for Nature. Our hope is that the council will continue to explore more nature friendly alternatives to the control of invasive species. Next time you are looking at a patch of knotweed, please ask the question ❓ Could a goat do this?

Following our successful receipt of the Healthier Families Small Grant Scheme we are excited to share Woodland Wardens, a monthly nature based session for home educating families - Learning about nature, caring for the woodland as well as opportunities for play and exploration.

Monday 19th October - 12.30pm - 2.30pm
Glantawe Riverside Park, Pontardawe, SA8 3HZ

In this session we will be building bug hotels and habitats for stag beetles. We will build a fire and cook a healthy snack, as well as get to know the woodland and garden.

Children of all ages welcome. Parents are required to stay for the duration of the session.

Excellent news!

Following funding from the Healthier Families Small Grant Scheme we are excited to share our Garden Guardians after-school club for primary age children.

Monday 19th October - 3.30pm - 5.30pm
Glantawe Riverside Park, Pontardawe, SA8 3HZ

In this session we will be building bug hotels and habitats for stag beetles. We will build a fire and cook a healthy snack, as well as get to know the woodland and garden. There will be space in the session for free play and exploration.

Ages 4yrs - 12 yrs (younger siblings welcome if joined by a child of this age catergory)

What an epic job the volunteers did today removing the top soil for our first Hugelkultur veg bed in the market garden. Well done everyone 👏 Watch this space for the next stage of building this highly fertile growing space which, amongst many other benefits, will be more resilient during times of drought. Thanks everyone for your hard work today and for the delicious lunch Phil!
Oh and the goats from Rumination Ltd have been very busy too, munching their way through knotweed and entertaining lots of visitors! 💚
