Silver Wings Success

Today CWO Hanley successfully completed his Gliding Scholarship and flying solo for the first time.

His hard work and commitment over numerous weekends has paid off.

From all at 2460 we are extremely proud of your achievement.

Well done FS Hiorns. Another huge challenge completed.

Today saw 3 of our cadets FS Iacob, FS Hiorns, and Cpl Stockwell as well as our OC Fg Off Hiorns take to the skies gliding with 645 Volunteer Gliding Squadron.

It was a fantastic experience for all. We was blessed with good flying conditions with spectacular views of North Yorkshire.

Wing Training Day 2026

16 cadets from 2460 Sqn took part in the annual Wing Training Day.

The event held numerous competitions from Cyber, First Aid, Aeromodelling, Banner Drill and Drill.

Banner Drill and the Drill competition has always been at the centre of what we take great pride in at 2460. Every year the standard across all Squadrons increases and it normally is just small margins the separates the very best.

It has been a particularly challenging year for 2460 Squadron, particular with the passing of FS Laura Pollard who put her heart and soul into this event. Despite the challenges, 2460 stepped up and performed extremely well. Even though we didn’t make the top 3 this year, they held their heads up high and showed what can be done in such a short time of preparation. They all demonstrated, resilience, team work and overall comradeship.

This is my first year as OC and i could not of asked for more yesterday. Extremely proud, WELL DONE! I believe we have the foundations of a great future squad.

Once again thank you to the staff that helped assist with the event.

A special shoutout goes to CI Kai Ford for managing the team over the past few weeks.

Also, a massive well done to Sgt Tolson for stepping up as DI for the first time this year.

Well deserved promotion.

This evening a promotion was made from the rank of Cpl to Sgt.

Over the past few months Sgt Tolson has demonstrated hard work, commitment and leadership qualities fitting of a SNCO.

Recently Sgt Tolson achieved 3 silver medals representing the wing at Athletics. Last weekend Sgt Tolson then led the Squadron drill squad out in front of large public crowd on Armed Forces Day.

From everyone at 2460, well done on your promotion Sgt Tolson.

Hornet Flights Graduation

Today saw 5 of our cadets officially pass out as members of the RAFACs.

During the ceremony each cadet read the cadet promise in front of family and friends.

Congratulation’s to Cdt Flanagan, Cdt Kellett, Cdt Broadbent-Fox, Cdt Flanagan and Cdt Robertse as they start their own cadet journey.

We would like to welcome them all to the 2460 community.

Wakefield Armed Forces Day

Today 2460 Pontefract Squadron along with 127 City of Wakefield Squadron, Air Cadets and 2388 (Castleford) Squadron Air Cadets took part in the Wakefield Armed Forces Day.

2460 entered the cadet drill competition. Competing against the Sea cadets and the Army Cadets. Sadly we did lose to the Army Cadets. But 2460 did perform exceptionally well in the public eye.

A big well done goes to FS Hanley who won the best dressed cadet for the competition.

Also, a big well done to Cpl Tolson for stepping up as DI who led the drill the squad today. And thanks to all the cadets that took part.

Further sporting success.

Today saw 3 of our cadets Cpl Tolson, Cdt Tolson and Cpl Hume represent South & West Yorkshire Wing at North Region Athletics.

Representing South and West Yorkshire Wing is an achievement on its own. But to bring home 4 silver medals at this level is a huge achievement.

Well done to Cpl Tolson who achieved 3 silver medals in 400m, long jump and high jump.

Also, a huge well done to Cdt Tolson achieving a silver medal in 1500m.

The Squadron is extremely proud of your success. WELL DONE
