The Strata Florida Archaeology Field School (SFAFS) takes place next to the remains of a 12th century abbey and 17th century gentry house and is a fully inclusive field school.

Our archaeology field school is made possible by our amazing staff team. They are a wonderful, knowledgeable, funny, friendly and enthusiastic team who are an absolute pleasure to work with.

A big thank you to Quentin Drew and Richard Jones our excavation co-directors, Dee Williams our finds officer, Dawn Haida, Kayne Thomas and Illia Shabalkin our site supervisors, Jen Muller and Jade Richards our geophysics consultants, Helena Venables our welfare lead, and Debbie and Carys always working hard behind the scenes to keep everything running smoothly.

Now that we've finished the final week of this year's Archaeology Field School, it's hard to believe how quickly the time has flown. It's always a little sad to see everyone pack up and head home after weeks of hard work, discoveries, learning, and plenty of memorable moments.

A huge thank you to all of our students, staff, volunteers, caterers, local businesses and supporters who made this season such a success. Your enthusiasm, dedication, and teamwork are what make the field school so special.

While we're saying goodbye for now, we're already looking ahead. Planning for our 2027 Archaeology Field School is underway, and we can't wait to share what's in store.

Keep an eye on this page for updates and detailsโ€”we'll be announcing information about the 2027 season as soon as we can. Until then, thank you again for an incredible year, and we hope to see many of you back in the field soon!

Week 3 has flown by - what a fantastic and vibrant week! With lots of familiar faces back with us from previous digs, it's sad to see you go, but looking forward to welcoming you back again in 2027.

We ended the week with a awe-inspiring trip exploring Carreg Cennen Castle.

We're excited for our final week of excavations, as well as our open day on Saturday 11th July - come along and see what we've been working on!

Community Archaeology Open Day

Every summer, during our Archaeology Field school, which takes place between mid-June and mid-July, we hold an Archaeology Open Day, where you can come along for tours of the dig, led by our archaeologists, and get some hands on finds cleaning experience and also enjoy a cuppa and a cake too!

Free โ€“ donations to Strata Florida Trust welcomed.
