Poole Harbour Commissioners Europe's Natural Port Poole Harbour is the second-largest natural harbour in the world after Sydney.

We've got 1.25 million tons of cargo, 400,000 passengers and over 5,000 commercial shipping movements within the harbour every year. As well as operating the commercial port of Poole, we provide facilities for different ships in the Harbour from cross channel ferries and oil tankers to fishing and leisure boats.

Merchant Navy Day is an opportunity to recognise the people behind the Red Ensign and the invaluable role they play in supporting our country and its maritime heritage.

Today, we recognise the dedication of the men and women of the Merchant Navy past and present and the important contribution they continue to make.

Here at Poole Harbour Commissioners we are proud to support the Fly the Red Ensign campaign and say thank you to all those who serve at sea. 🇬🇧⚓️

🚢 The Waverley is coming back to Poole!

We are very much looking forward to welcoming the much-loved Paddle Steamer Waverley back to Poole on 7–9 September.

Built in 1946, Waverley is the world’s last seagoing passenger-carrying paddle steamer. Originally sailing on the Firth of Clyde, she was rescued and restored by the Paddle Steamer Preservation Society and now travels around the British coast, giving passengers the chance to experience a unique piece of maritime history.

She has even been recognised as part of the National Historic Fleet as a "vessel of pre-eminent national importance".

A huge congratulations to Borough of Poole Sea Cadets on securing a fantastic £15,000 National Lottery grant! ⚓️👏

This is brilliant news for the unit and will make a real difference, supporting boat repairs and safety equipment, the award-winning marching band, and the ongoing running of the unit’s historic building.

Most importantly, the funding will help sustain the youth training and community engagement that Poole Sea Cadets provides across the local area.

Well deserved, and a fantastic investment in the next generation of young people and our maritime community.

Our Marine Services team had a fantastic day welcoming you onto our vessels, answering your questions and explaining the important role they play in keeping Poole Harbour and the Port of Poole running smoothly.
