From 1st April 2026 the Black Seabream Co-Developed Principles are in place for the Purbeck Coast, Poole Rocks and Southbourne Rough Marine Conservation Zones.

The Co-Developed Principles aim to improve understandings of black seabream & relevant fisheries through a proportionate & adaptive approach to management which supports long-term sustainability and enables partnership working with the Dorset Community.

The voluntary Co-Developed Principles apply to all fishers for black seabream between 1st April to 31st July each year within the three MCZs.

Please see the QR code or visit: https://www.southern-ifca.gov.uk/black-seabream-fisheries for more information.

We invite all fishers engaged in black seabream fisheries in the three Dorset MCZs to become Black Seabream Custodians helping to support the delivery of sustainable management for this species.

Thereโ€™s just under a month left to take part in Defraโ€™s consultations on four draft fisheries management plans.

Defra is hosting events in April where you can meet the team, ask questions and share your experience and views on the proposals.

Recordings of earlier information sessions are also available to watch.

Your views will help shape the final plans. Consultations close 5 May.

๐Ÿ“ข Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has now announced the inโ€‘person consultation events for the Celtic Sea and Western Channel demersal and pelagic fisheries management plans (FMPs).

These sessions provide an important opportunity for local commercial and recreational fishers, industry groups, environmental organisations and coastal community representatives to:

๐Ÿ”น discuss proposals directly with the Defra FMP team
๐Ÿ”น hear more about how the draft plans were developed
๐Ÿ”น share local insight that will feed into the consultation
๐Ÿ”น help shape sustainable management of these fisheries
