From fun evening groups filled with games, activities and opportunities to relax, to exciting residential trips that provide adventures and lasting memories, our Young Carers Team is there to give carers a break from their caring responsibilities.

Here are a few photos from our latest residential trip. A group of young carers went with Jane and Sarah to , where they built rafts, explored the woods, played games and created woodland creatures, made of things found in the woods.

Each of them help care for someone at home. Some support parents with physical disabilities, while others help care for brothers or sisters with complex needs. Every one of the young carer's story is different, but they all carry a lot of responsibility.

We value the importance of experiences like these and just how much they are needed for young carers to relax, recharge and most importantly, have fun.

North Somerset Carer Support is proud to support unpaid carers across North Somerset, from young carers aged 5+ to adult carers.

In light of Carers Week, we're celebrating the theme 'Building Carer Friendly Communities'. We recognise that carers deserve to feel appreciated and supported in the communities they call home. There are many ways that communities can help, and these include:

🫶 Creating inclusive community spaces where carers feel welcome and can access support and socialise.

🫶 Listening to carers' voices and include them when making decisions about the services around them.

🫶 Promoting early identification to ensure carers can access support as soon as possible.

✨It's Carers Week!✨

This week, we're celebrating Carers Week and recognising the invaluable contribution that carers make every day. To mark the occasion, we have two events taking place, where carers can come together and enjoy some well deserved recognition and appreciation. If you would like to attend, please do get in touch and book your place.

In light of Volunteers' Week, we wanted to share some feedback from Martin, one of our amazing volunteers within the Wellbeing Programme.

‘I’m delighted to be involved. I think it’s a really important initiative that is much needed for people in our community who need some relief from the pressures they are under. I’m super impressed by the organisation and you are really easy to work with - thank you for your support.
I hope to make a bigger contribution in the future and hope I can make a difference to peoples lives.’

✨ Meet Jodie, our Volunteer Co-Ordinator ✨

Jodie works closely with Weston College and delivers regular workshops, providing an overview of volunteering opportunities within our carers services to students studying for a Level 3 Diploma in Counselling. Students are then able to apply for a volunteer role and are taken through our robust and accessible recruitment and training process. These student and other volunteers have enabled us to launch our 1-1 Wellbeing Support to carers, where Jodie matches a counselling student to an adult carer (based on their skills and interests) to provide some individualised support sessions in the community. Jodie has also set up our Come2Gether group at our Loxton Community Hub, where carers can bring their cared for and both can enjoy a bit of respite, lunch and activities with support from our invaluable volunteers. This kind of break is very rare and very valuable for unpaid adult carers.
