RNLI Portishead

RNLI Portishead RNLI Lifeboat Station in Portishead It was based at Sugar Loaf Beach. It was opened officially by Mrs Peggy Gittings in June 2015.

Portishead RNLI became an operational lifeboat station on 24th April 2015 with relief lifeboat Spirit of Clovelly an Atlantic 75 class lifeboat on service. Up until that date the crew volunteers operated an independent lifesaving rescue service as The Portishead Lifeboat Trust which was founded in 1996. After finding a more suitable location, the new purpose built state of the art lifeboat station

was constructed in Eastcliff and was completed thanks to donations from our community and donors from the RNLI. My Lady Anne, the Atlantic 85 class lifeboat was build at the Inshore Lifeboat Centre in Cowes, Isle of Wight, after the RNLI received a generous donation from Mr Bill Wraith, who named the Atlantic 85 after his late wife. My Lady Anne was delivered ready for service on 14th September 2015 and was called out for the first time just 5 day later. My Lady Anne was officially named on 5th March 2016. Our mission is to continue to save lives at sea!

🌊 VERY HIGH TIDE this evening at 9.32pm - 14 meters have you seen one before?! πŸ‘€

Another wonder from Mother Nature tonight (14th), following on from the Eclipse earlier this week you will see a huge tide in the Bristol Channel.

Did you know...our tides can reach 15meters, making our stretch of water the second highest tidal range in the world, second only to the Bay of Fundy in Canada.

Tonight's tidal flow will reach speeds of up to 4 knots, so please do take good care if you are planning a swim. The average beginner swims at around 1 knot. Even the world famous Olympian Micheal Phelps might struggle in the water this evening!

Always swim with someone else, preferably a group who have experience in our waters.

REMEMBER: . If you see someone in trouble on or in the water, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

πŸ“Ÿ We WILL launch for your beloved 4 legged friends if they get into trouble, do not enter the water yourself and put yourself at risk...πŸ™

Take care and enjoy the views which will hopefully give us another glorious sunset as well πŸŒ…
