🦆 Spot the Odd Object – CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR WINNERS! 🥳

It was lovely to welcome our Spot the Odd Object prize winners to the station on Sunday to present their certificates! 🏆

Congratulations again to Archie, Joey, Sienna and Lucy and thank you for coming along with your families to meet some of our crew and have your photos taken. Big thanks for Archie and Joey's Dad in being a sport to see if our dry suits really do keep us dry! 💙

Thank you once more to everyone who took part in the competition, helping us raise an incredible £568 for the RNLI! 🎉 And thanks to Simon Perks & Company Limited for sponsoring the cash prizes. 💙

📟 CALL OUT - Lifeboat volunteers were woken at 4.39am this morning (6th) to the sound of their pagers.

A fishing vessel had suffered engine failure and although they had put down an anchor to hold them, being so close to the busy shipping channel was a dangerous position to be in.

The 2 people on board were well, although one of the casualties seemed to be very cold, so it was decided to bring them to the safety of Portishead Marina who were happy to take them in 🙏

An astern tow was rigged so that they could be taken into deeper water, and then a tow was set to bring them back to the Marina.

This has been a difficult week for many not just locally but our lifeboat family in Hastings too.

From us all here at RNLI Portishead we want to express our deepest sympathies to you all and our colleagues at Hasting Lifeboat Station after the tragic death of a much loved crew member this week.

Our thoughts are with all the families, loved ones and fellow crew....💔💙

🌊 Pip is one of only eight women in history to have completed the solo, non-stop Vendée Globe, finishing the 2021 race in 19th place after an incredible 95 days at sea aboard one of the oldest boats in the fleet.

Her resilience is legendary. During the 2017 Three Peaks Yacht Race, Pip broke her ankle just six miles from the finish, yet continued to help her team secure an incredible third place!

Known for her positivity, grit and adventurous spirit, Pip will share her extraordinary experiences, stories from life at sea and the lessons she has learned from decades of sailing in some of the world's toughest conditions.

📟📟📟📟📟 5 CALL OUTS in 4 days…a busy weekend for the crew volunteers.

Working closely with the Portishead Coastguard Rescue Team, Avon Fire & Rescue Service, Avon and Somerset Police and the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust helping to resolve all incidents as quickly as possible and ensuring the safety of our community....🙏

This role will enable volunteer RNLI lifeboat crews to save lives at sea by organising and carrying out vital fundraising activity in your local community.

📟 CALL OUT - Saturday (12th), at 6.59pm the volunteers launched having been tasked by HM Coastguard. A member of the public reported seeing a person enter the water on the Portway in Bristol, along the River Avon.

On an incoming tide, the water travels very quickly in the River, the lifeboat volunteers made best speed to the reported location and working alongside Portishead Coastguard Rescue Team, Avon Fire & Rescue Service searched along the river including along the bank on each side, all the way up as far as Templemeads.

One of the bridges the lifeboat crew had to go under was very low due to the height of tide, forcing them to lower the radar and aerials on the Atlantic 85 lifeboat enabling them to get under it.

After searching for an hour, nothing was found and the crew were stood down.

Once back at the station, the shore crew were then able to wash down My Lady Anne the Atlantic 85 lifeboat, refuel and make sure she was ready for service once again.

Congratulations to Harry one of our newest trainee boat crew, this was his first shout afloat on the lifeboat! Here is to many more...🙏
