Pete will be delighted to receive your support by joining him during the day/night and will be raising money for one of his chosen charities - the Weymouth branch of the Samaritans.

TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF GUERNSEY STREET, PORTLAND

DORSET COUNCIL has issued a Notice under Section 14 [2] of the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984 as amended.

All vehicles will be prohibited from proceeding along GUERNSEY STREET, PORTLAND for its entirety.

The Notice is needed in order to comply with health and safety regulations which require the provision of safe working areas and to minimise likelihood of danger to highway users. It will come into operation at 10am on 16 October 2026 and remain in force for five days, however it is anticipated that the works will be completed by 3pm on 16 October 2026.

This Notice will enable Wessex Water Services safe access to carry out permanent reinstatement in the highway.

Repairs to strengthen the seawall at Chesil Cove are due to start soon as there's damage beneath the beach shingle, including holes in the steel piling.

Weather permitting the repairs will start on 5 October and take around two weeks.

Access to Chesil Beach will remain open via the north steps.

The south steps next to the work area will be temporarily closed.

We're keeping the disruption to a minimum but for everyone's safety, temporary fencing and safety zones will be in place.

We'll keep residents, businesses and beach users informed of the progress.

Va**ng:
The UK has introduced major va**ng reforms in 2025–2026, including a ban on disposable v**es, a new v**e tax, and stricter advertising and packaging rules under the To***co and V**es Act 2026

Key Changes Already in Force:
Disposable v**es banned – From 1 June 2025, all single‑use, non‑rechargeable va**ng devices are illegal to sell in the UK
Legal: rechargeable pod systems, refillable devices, and any v**e with a rechargeable battery.
Penalties: unlimited fines for retailers selling disposables
Legal va**ng age – Remains 18+
Ni****ne limits – Still capped at 20mg/mL for retail e‑liquids, with 10mL max bottle size for ni****ne‑containing products

To***co:
New Laws from the To***co and V**es Act 2026

Royal Assent: 29 April 2026
To***co sales to under‑18s banned – No to***co products sold to anyone born on or after 1 Jan 2009
V**e advertising restrictions – Ban on advertising and sponsorship of v**es/ni****ne products; powers to limit packaging, branding, and displays appealing to children
Plain packaging and flavour rules – Consultation opened July 2026 on plain packaging, flavour name restrictions, and ending open v**e displays
Smoke‑free protections – Powers to strengthen restrictions in certain public places to protect children and vulnerable people
Upcoming Tax Change

Va**ng Products Duty – From 1 October 2026, a £2.20 per 10mL tax on all e‑liquids (ni****ne and non‑ni****ne)
Impact: expected price rises for e‑liquids and shortfills; to***co duty will also rise by £2 per 100 ci******es to maintain the price gap
What’s Still Legal

Refillable v**e devices and pod systems (including pre‑filled pods if rechargeable)
E‑liquids up to 20mg/mL ni****ne, in bottles up to 10mL
Shortfills (ni****ne‑free, larger bottles) with ni****ne shots
Indoor va**ng – no UK‑wide ban; venue policies apply

In summary: Disposable v**es are banned, va**ng is still legal for adults but under tighter rules, a new tax starts in October 2026, and the To***co and V**es Act 2026 introduces advertising, packaging, and youth protection measures

Weymouth Beach is set to become one of the UK's leading examples of inclusive beach access, making it easier for everyone to enjoy the beach and sea, regardless of ability, health condition, or mobility needs.

Dorset Coast Forum are seeking your views on proposed improvements and encourage you to complete our survey.

Your feedback will help shape the final design and ensure it meets the needs of the community and visitors.
