Congratulations to Portsmouth's new Lord Mayor, Cllr Kadir. He made a powerful call to unity, understanding and respect during today's mayor making ceremony.

Our world feels ever more divided, but Portsmouth is still a place where we look out for each other. Kadir will make an excellent Lord Mayor for the city's 100th year with his focus on unity, understanding and respect.

In a world that can feel increasingly divided, it is more important than ever that we focus on unity, understanding, and respect.

Congratulations to Cllr Steve Pitt on his re-election as Leader of Portsmouth City Council.

Steve has been leading the fight against the Government's disastrous plans to merge Portsmouth into a new monster council.

Today, he reminded councillors that as the newly re-elected Leader of the City Council he is due to serve a four year term, but that this may be cut short to just two years if the Government gets away with its plan.

Steve is also a respected leader of the city's thriving cultural scene, and part of the team driving Portsmouth's bid to become City of Culture.

Portsmouth has a great ambassador in Cllr Steve Pitt, and we are delighted to see him re-elected as Leader of the Council.

The Sails of the South have been restored to their full glory once more! ⛵
The tri-sail structure, which welcomes people into Portsmouth, has had its fabric panels replaced and new lighting installed. This work not only keeps the sails looking their best, but also ensures the structure meets modern safety standards and fulfils its intended lifespan. 💙

The Government is looking into a bid to host the Olympics in 2040 with a focus on the north.

Liberal Democrat Leader of Portsmouth City Council Steve Pitt has urged the Government not to overlook Portsmouth, which already hosts world-class sailing events, from SailGP, to The Clipper Race and the Ocean Race.

The Solent is the home of sailing, and Portsmouth would be a perfect location to host watersports for the 2040 Olympics, just as Weymouth did in 2012.

The Labour Government should not overlook Portsmouth for the 2040 Olympics.
