If you earn £100 and pay £30 in income tax, you’re left with £70.

You then spend that £70 on fuel, and a massive chunk of that goes straight back to the taxman through fuel duty and VAT.

So that £100 you worked for doesn’t really feel like £100 anymore. You’re taxed when you earn it, then taxed again when you spend what’s left.

How much tax is too much?

Because when the government is taking tax from you at every stage of your everyday life, it’s no wonder people are feeling like they’re working harder and getting less for it.

Just how much of our hard-earned money should actually be ours?

28 AUGUST 2021 — THE LAST BRITISH TROOPS LEFT AFGHANISTAN 🇬🇧

Five years ago today, the final British military flight left Kabul.

For many people, Afghanistan is now something they see in documentaries or read about in history books.

But for thousands of British veterans, it was part of our lives.

I served in the British Army and completed tours of Afghanistan myself. Those experiences, the people I served alongside, and the things we witnessed are things that stay with you long after you've taken the uniform off.

We were young when we went out there. We did the job we were trained and asked to do, alongside some incredible men and women. Friendships were made that will last a lifetime, and sadly, not everyone who went came home.

More than 150,000 British personnel served in Afghanistan.

457 British personnel lost their lives.

Whatever anyone's opinion is on the war, the politics behind it, or how it eventually came to an end, those numbers aren't just statistics.

They were people.

Sons.
Daughters.
Fathers.
Mothers.
Brothers.
Sisters.
Friends.

For many veterans, Afghanistan will never simply be a chapter in a history book.

It was part of our youth.

And for 457 of our own, it was where their future ended.

Today, I remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and I think of everyone who served.

A little update on what I’ve been doing behind the scenes.

I’ve got a couple of important meetings this week with some influential people, and some more meetings coming up over the next couple of weeks. These could be crucial, not just for Prestatyn, but for the wider communities around us.

I want to be open about my intentions because transparency is the key to everything I want to do for this town. I’m not a councillor yet, so there are places where my hands are tied, and I’m not going to pretend otherwise.

But that doesn’t mean I’m sitting back and doing nothing.

I have people working alongside me, completely off their own backs, supporting the causes and issues that matter. I’m genuinely grateful for the time and effort they’re putting in and the impact they’re already having.

That’s especially true with what’s happening with our neighbours in Gronant. I grew up around Gronant, I have connections there, and to me, they’re our neighbours. We look after our neighbours. I also want to recognise the hard work Ted Hill is putting in. What he's sacrificed for that village needs to be recognised!
A meeting is being planned, and I want that meeting to be more than something rushed because of pressure. The pressure isn’t completely off, but we now have the right support in place, and that gives us a much stronger position to move forward properly

There are other issues I’m looking into as well, including the proposed housing around the Duck Pond. I’ve got people looking into that too, because these things need to be properly understood before decisions are made.

The main point is this:

I’m not resting. I’m evaluating. I’m listening. I’m asking questions. And I’m getting the right people around the table.
