🇬🇧 IN MONTY’S FOOTSTEPS – AN EVENING OF REMEMBRANCE AND HISTORY

Honouring the past. Inspiring future generations.

As we approach Remembrance, we have a special opportunity to reflect on the extraordinary courage, sacrifice and service of those who came before us.

On Tuesday 3 November, Lord Henry Montgomery will visit Preston to share the remarkable story of his journey retracing his grandfather’s historic 4,000-mile route across Britain and France in 1944.

🎖️ In the presence of Lancashire’s Second World War veterans, this special film and presentation will help preserve the memory of the 22,540 individuals under British command who lost their lives during the D-Day landings and the Battle of Normandy.

Their stories are an important part of our shared history, and ensuring they are remembered by future generations is a responsibility we all share.

The Knott End veterans breakfast club meet on the 3ed Saturday of the month at the Knott End Cafe. Run by proprietor Stuart Ward (ex Queens Lancs Regt - blue shirt). The club has a large, rural catchment area and sits at the top of the Fleetwood Ferry slipway. They next meet on Nov 21st from 0930 so come along and support this great cause! A small full English breakfast and drink for £6 plus a comprehensive menu to chose from.

Due to the high number of regular visitors to their Wednesday morning breakfast club Bay Veterans Association in Morecambe have relocated from The Pier to the newly refurbished Bath Hotel in Northumberland Street where access is easier for those with mobility issues. The group meet here every Wednesday from 10am - 12 noon. Present at the first event were the vice chairman of Lancashire County Council Clive Balchin, DL Col Richard Beatson, Valour Rep Tony Codling, Tony Brankin of Morecambe FC Community Foundation, Paul Bartle of SSAFA, visitors from the Garstang Veterans breakfast club, local celebrity WWII veteran Richard Brock and BVA members themselves. Great to see the local collaboration and a big well done to the directors and volunteers at BVA who have provided a very successful veterans hub in Morecambe with outreach in Carnforth and Lancaster.

Commando Engineer met Para Engineer today when Billy Benson called in to County Hall to discuss all things veteran with the Armed Forces Covenant Hub Manager Gregg Stevenson.

I was treated to a very tasty breakfast at Belisama's Retreat on the River Ribble near Samlesbury. The retreat provides invaluable support to those who have served in a peaceful four acre riverside setting. Contact Paul Marriot for more info.

A big thanks to Col David Waters for organising a private showing of 'Pressure' for the veterans community. Veterans and serving members from across Lancashire attended the showing and thanks also go out to the management team from the Arc cinema. Former Sgt Richard Brock was there telling us how he was holed up in a troop ship during the bad weather prior to D Day. Too much left handed saluting, otherwise a great film!

Today, on Battle of Britain Day 🇬🇧, we remember the courage, skill and sacrifice of those who defended our skies during one of the most significant moments of the Second World War.

On 15 September 1940, the Royal Air Force and Allied aircrew fought a decisive battle against the Luftwaffe. Their determination, alongside the efforts of those supporting them on the ground, helped shape the course of the war.

Here in Lancashire, we are proud to stand alongside our Armed Forces community as we honour those who served, those who sacrificed, and the generations who continue their legacy today.

We will remember them.
