🚧 Update: B250 Cotton Tree Lane, Colne to Trawden

We're continuing to investigate a surface water issue which has caused damage to the road and footway on Cotton Tree Lane.

We're working with United Utilities to determine the cause of the drainage issue and assess the full extent of the damage.

We know this is an important route for many people travelling to and from Trawden, and we recognise the disruption this closure is causing.

We'll continue to monitor the situation over the Bank Holiday weekend.

🚧 Ongoing utility works at Lostock Lane junction

From August to 16 October, utility company works will take place to install a new water main serving a nearby development.

To reduce disruption, the pipe will be installed using directional drilling, allowing it to pass beneath the busy Lostock Lane junction without the need for extensive road excavations and wider lane closures.

As part of the works, some left-turn lanes at the junction will be temporarily closed between 14 September and 2 October. Signed diversions will be in place, and motorists will still be able to make their journeys by using the existing junction layout to position themselves in the correct lane. The cycle lane through the junction will also be temporarily closed during this period to help keep cyclists safe.

Ground investigation works are taking place this week using temporary lane closures to identify any issues in advance and help prevent delays during the main construction phase.

We'd like to thank road users for their patience while these essential works are carried out. Please allow extra time for your journey and plan ahead where possible.

☀️ Is it too early to talk about winter?

Not for us!

While everyone else has been enjoying the summer sunshine, we've been busy making sure our gritter fleet is fully prepared for the colder months ahead. After all, winter planning doesn't start when the temperatures drop, it's something we work on all year round.

Here, Walter the Salter and the Snow Stopper headed into the workshop for maintenance, inspections and a bit of TLC, helping to make sure they're ready to roll when winter arrives.

🚛❄️ Behind every winter gritting run is months of preparation, route planning, vehicle maintenance and team training.

So while we're still enjoying the sunshine, we're already looking ahead to keeping Lancashire moving this winter.

🚧 Essential repair works on Trough Road, Forest of Bowland

From 1 September to 9 October, we'll be carrying out essential repairs to a retaining wall that collapsed at Sykes Farm on Trough Road (BB7 3BJ).

The works will involve rebuilding the collapsed section, helping us to restore the road and reopen the highway to full capacity.

❌ Trough Road will be fully closed at the work site for the duration of the works. Unfortunately, no vehicles, cyclists or pedestrians will be able to pass through the closure point. A signed diversion route will be in place.

We've written to local residents to let them know about the works, and our contractor will be taking steps to minimise environmental impacts wherever possible.

🚲 Congratulations to Lancashire's Bikeability Stars!

A huge congratulations to every child across Lancashire who has successfully completed their Bikeability training this year.

Bikeability gives young people the skills, confidence and awareness to cycle safely, stay active and travel independently.

We're incredibly proud that Lancashire is one of the UK's top-performing Bikeability authorities, ranking joint 2nd nationally and reaching 86% of Year 6 pupils across the county.

This success is part of the Generation Cycle campaign, helping a generation of young people gain the confidence to cycle for life. Following the excitement of the Women's Tour of Britain, it's fantastic to see that legacy continuing as thousands of Lancashire children develop the skills to enjoy cycling safely in their communities.

🚧 Planned roadworks – week commencing 24 August

Summer is one of our busiest times of the year. With fewer vehicles on the road during the school holidays, we can make the most of the opportunity to carry out improvement works and minimise disruption wherever possible. Over the next two weeks, you'll see our teams and Lancashire's Utility providers out and about across Lancashire delivering a range of projects.

Below is a quick snapshot of some of the works starting.

🧭 North
• Victoria Road West, Thornton Cleveleys – multiway signals installed to allow United Utilities to carry out multiple works, starting on the 24th August
• Low Road, Halton – road closed to allow SP Electricity North West to install a new connection and cable, starting on the 24 August

🧭 East
• Lowerhouse Lane, Burnley – multiway signals installed to allow United Utilities to carry out works, starting on the 24th August
• Woodplumpton Road, Burnley - Road closed in order to enable offsite drainage connection down Woodplumpton road , starting on the 24th August
• Burnley Road, Bacup – multi-way signals installed to allow United Utilities to replace existing water main, starting on the 24th August
• Clitheroe Road, Sabden – multiway signals installed to allow Untied Utilites to replace existing water main, starting on the 24th August
• Turnpike Fold, Slyne – road closed to allow for sewer works to be carried out, starting on the 24th August
• Market Street, Whitworth - multiway signals installed to allow SP Electricity North West to install new cable, starting on the 26th August
• Cumeragh Lane, Goosnargh – two way signals installed to allow United Utilities to carry out works, starting on the 26h August
• Whittingham Lane, Goosnargh – multiway signals installed to allow for road space while building works are carried out, starting on the 26 August

🧭 South
• Mill Lane, Heskin, Charnock Richard – multi-way signals to allow United Utilities to carry out works, starting on the 24th August
• Preston Road, Charnock Richard - multi-way signals to allow United Utilities to carry out works, starting on the 24th August
• Park Hall Road, Charnock Richard – two-way signals installed to allow United Utilities to carry out works, starting on the 24th August
• Liverpool Road, Hutton – two-way signals to allow United Utilities to install new Connections, starting on the 24 August
• Liverpool Road South, Burscough – multiway signals installed to allow United Utilities to carry out works, starting on the 24th August
• Southport Road, Scarisbrick – multi-way signals installed to allow United Utilities Water comprise a concrete base for the proposed Kiosk, starting on the 24th August
• Slater Lane, Moss Side, Leyland – two-way signals installed to allow Cadent Gas to carry out some repairs, starting on the 24th August
• St Helens Road, North Of Park Road, Ormskirk – road closed to allow SP Electricity North West to carry out works, starting on the 24th August
• Blackburn Road, Chorley – two-way signals installed to allow Cadent Gas to carry out works, starting on the 24th August

A huge thank you to everyone for your patience and support during the road closures for the Lloyds yesterday.

Despite the wet weather and a few unexpected setbacks along the way, it was a fantastic event that showcased the very best of Lancashire to a national audience.

Events like this help put our County on the map, celebrate elite women's sport, and inspire future generations of cyclists.

🚴‍♀️ Thank you, Lancashire. You helped make it a day to remember.

📢Update at 2pm: The riders are now moving again following the earlier pause. However, the race will not officially restart until it reaches Whalley.

As a result, the estimated road closure times published earlier will be affected and closures may remain in place for longer than originally anticipated as the race progresses through the route.

Please continue to follow our channels for the latest updates.

Good luck to all the riders as they get back underway!

ℹ️ Original post at: 1:43pm: The has been temporarily halted due to a road traffic incident on the route ahead.

The race is currently stopped near Nick o' Pendle while emergency services respond. The incident is not connected to the race.

At this time, there is no confirmed restart time. We will share further updates as soon as more information becomes available, as the route is being restarted in Whalley. Please be aware that this may impact the estimated timings of the road closures.
