Congratulations to the team and friends group at Ashton Park where another Green Flag has been awarded this year.

The international standard for parks and green spaces recognises the hard work, passion and dedication of all those who care for these important green spaces all year round, ensuring they are maintained to a high standard for visitors and residents to enjoy.

A sunny day this week was the perfect time to raise the flag!

The Friends of Haslam Park has been recognised with a Green Flag Community Award for their efforts in helping to look after Haslam Park and Local Nature Reserve. Here's the group at the Green Flag raising event in the Sensory Garden in Haslam Park. Thanks to every member of the group for their great efforts.

"I’m absolutely thrilled that 5 Preston parks have won Green Flag Awards for 2026/27.

"Green Flag Awards - now in their 30th year - are seen as the international benchmark for exceptional parks and green space management, with only the cleanest, safest, most sustainable green spaces granted the award each year.

"Winckley Square Gardens was also awarded the Green Heritage Accreditation Award - the first time a green space in Preston has received this recognition.

"I’m also so proud that the Friends of Haslam Park and the Intact Centre received Green Flag Community Awards for their exemplary work to enhance Haslam Park and Dobcroft Nature Reserve respectively, and their outstanding work to engage the public.

"It was my honour to attend the Green Flag Awards on Tuesday in Lytham to represent the City, alongside Steve - one of our amazing Park Rangers - and volunteers from Friends of Haslam Park and Intact.

"I want to thank every single Preston City Council member of staff involved in our parks service for their outstanding work all year round - often unnoticed in all weathers - to maintain our precious parks and green spaces, and also every volunteer for Friends Groups across the city for taking their time to contribute to improving their community and Preston’s environment.

"These awards are for you." 🏆🌳
