Northumberland Fire Service have been in school this morning talking about Water Safety, Deliberate Fire Setting, and Anti-social Behaviour. Pupils have learned all about keeping safe, and the importance of showing respect to our emergency services. This half term we are focusing on our HEART value of team work and community and we saw a perfect example of this in action on Saturday afternoon! A group of pupils from OMS worked together as a team to put together a short performance with some acting, singing and dancing to perform in front of our local community at Ovingham Goose Fair. They were absolutely fabulous - well done to them all!

A fantastic day of athletics at the Minors County Athletics Finals at Gateshead Stadium. 39 OMS pupils qualified to represent Tynedale in the County Finals today. Lots of pb’s and fantastic performances across the day and lots of OMS pupils crowned County Champions. Well done to everyone who took part.

Our Year 7 Axiom Maths Circle pupils had a fantastic day at Newcastle University today, joining other Axiom Maths students from across the North East for a day of mathematical exploration and enrichment.

The pupils took part in a large-scale Maths Circle event, worked through a challenging and enjoyable workshop on matrix multiplication led by a university lecturer, and heard from guest speaker Tom Westgarth, who currently works in the AI and tech industry. A particular highlight was discovering that Tom is a former pupil of Ovingham Middle School, showing our students just where a love of maths can lead!

The day was designed to showcase the exciting opportunities that mathematics can provide beyond the classroom, and it certainly achieved that. Ethan summed it up perfectly at the end of the workshop, saying, “That was so inspiring.”

Miss Maynard is incredibly proud of the enthusiasm, curiosity and resilience shown by all of the pupils throughout the day.

Our Year 6 basketball teams had a fantastic day at the Vertu Arena Hoops for Health Tournament. They played 3 groups matches in the morning with both teams winning all their matches and so progressed to semi finals in the afternoon. Lots of great teamwork shown across the event , well done to everyone who took part.
